Prof TN Singh, former Vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi, is an alumnus of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). He has taught at IIT Bombay where he was in the department of Earth Sciences.

Prof TN Singh has taken the charge of the new director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna. IIT Patna welcomed the new director through Twitter. It tweeted, “Prof TN Singh has assumed charge of the Director, IIT Patna w.e.f 10.09.2021. Prof Singh formerly was Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidhyapith, Varanasi. Prof Singh is an alumni of BHU and Professor in the Dept of Earth Sciences, IIT Bombay.”  

The Union Education Ministry released the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2021 for all colleges and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) retained the top positions in overall and engineering category. As per the NIRF 2021 rankings, IIT Madras secured the top position in engineering category, whereas IIT Patna bagged the 21st rank. 

Meanwhile, IIT Patna has announced about reopening its campus for certain students. According to the order issued, students who are pursuing PhD or are doing any project work, have been allowed to return to the campus for offline classes. For this, the institute has mandated that students must have a taken at least dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Though IIT Patna has started the process of reopening the campus, attendance has not been made mandatory. The institute said that online classes would continue for all students and nobody would be forced to attend offline classes. 

IIT Patna is also organising medical camps for students who will be returning to the campus. Those who decide to attend offline classes will first undergo a medical check-up, stay in quarantine for seven days at the allotted place and only then they will be allowed to attend classes. The institute will release details of SOPs soon.
