The state government said that the differently-abled students were availing online classes via social media apps such as Zoom, WhatsApp, Google meets, Zoom meetings, video recordings and home visits by teachers with all precautionary norms being followed.
The Government of Maharashtra informed the Bombay High Court that it was the specially-abled students were being provided the online classes in the state. These students studied in special schools and training centres which are managed by NGOs during the pandemic. Earlier, a petition was filed raising concerns over various issues being faced by the students with disabilities during the lockdown which led to the closure of the academic institutions. The state government filed an affidavit in response to the same.
According to the report, the affidavit was filed by Dinesh Dingle, Joint Secretary, Social Justice and Special Assistance Department. He said,” since the COVID-19 situation is still not under control and in the absence of a vaccine, it would not be possible to hold physical classes for specially-abled students.” The affidavit also informed that "from June 15, 2020, the said online education has been made available through the Disha app.” In order to facilitate differentially abled students with online classes, Jay Vakeel Educational and Research Institution is working as the nodal agency. "This agency has formed a group of special educators who have been provided training about online education, the affidavit said.

An NGO named Anamprem filed a petition against the government which stated that the government has framed policy online for general pupils. It also stated that there are no guidelines for students with disabilities.
