SPPU to refund exam fees collected last year from students during COVID-19 lockdown

Considering the pandemic situation, SPPU canceled the semester exams last year. Following the same, the varsity promoted all students to the next class without giving the exam, except for the final year students.

SPPU Exams 2021: During a meeting with the university management council, the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) decided to refund the exam fees collected from the students last year. According to the official reports released by SPPU, the fees will be returned to the students after deducting the processing amount, said Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar. Considering the pandemic situation, SPPU canceled the semester exams last year. Following the same, the varsity promoted all students to the next class without giving the exam, except for the final year students.

As the students did not attend any classes, demand was made by student organisations to refund the exam fees collected by the University. The discussion regarding the same took place during a meeting held by the management council on February 23. It was decided by the council that the fees will be returned to the students but the processing amount will be deducted.

Meanwhile, the meeting hall was stormed by the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and slogans were raised against the University. Some even argued with the security personnel of the university.

Commenting on the incidence and the decision was taken by the University, vice-chancellor Dr Karmalkar said, “This kind of protest is not acceptable in a heritage building of the university. We will register a complaint against those who organised the protests.”
