In this Take 5-Series with Shiksha, Chairperson Academics at Asia-Pacific Institute of Management Ritika Gauba talks about how the institute is preparing the students to become industry-ready. She also elaborates about the methodologies institute adopts to prepare students for future.

Q. What is the difference between the teaching methodology in your institute and others?

A. Our teaching style is unique because we use outcome-based learning, which is mapped against the result of any student. And we make changes in our teaching style according to the result or outcome of any student. If they does not get a good grade, we make changes in our teaching style to make them comfortable with the course. We keep on changing our methodology till the point they start doing good in studies. Along with our teaching styles, our PGDM curriculum too is dynamic, and we adjust it periodically.

Q. How are you preparing your students to be industry-ready?

A. It is a continuous and a self-learning process. We believe in practical exposure than just theoretical knowledge to the students. Our focus is to imbibe real-time industry exposure to every student through summer internships, personal transform lab facilities and incubation labs. These experiences help to develop modern temperament in students before they finally get placed in any company.

We also conduct industrial visits along with entrepreneurial lecture series to ignite working skills and aptitude.
Q. What qualities do your students have which other college students lack?

A. While at selection process itself we screen out meritorious students who are experts in:

  • Corporate presence
  • Fully confident
  • Good communication skills
  • Rights attitude
  • Go-getter attitude in real sense

Q. Do you think the curriculum of the courses taught in your institute fits in the requirement of the industry?

A. The courses are continuously vetted by industry experts to keep pace with the industrial requirements, which are highly dynamic and changes too frequently. These fundamental changes are required to make our students well-versed with the changing technologies and nature of work, and help them to become a valuable asset for the business.

Q. Is your college receptive to the innovation, technology, science and entrepreneurship?

A. Yes, our college is receptive to all the changes. We are second to none in making changes in our curriculum. AIM has upgraded its PGDM curriculum with all new business requirements such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Six Sigma, Digital Marketing, R-programming, export and import documentation briefs, database management, HR analytics, to name some.

To make our students informed about the Central government working procedures, we them with a government-approved certification course. This course prepares our students aware of the working culture of the Indian government, as all big multinational companies have to work under the rules and regulations established by the government.
