In this Take 5-Series with Shiksha, Director Asia-Pacific Institute of Management Surabhi Goyal talks about how the institute is preparing the students to become industry-ready. She also elaborates about the various initiatives that Institute takes to provide practical exposure to students.

Q. What are the three things that your institute is doing that will enable it to differentiate itself from competition?
A. From the past many years, this institute has consistently been ranked as the premier B-school because of the following:

  • Every year, experts from the best B-school and top industries help to upgrade the curriculum with latest changes. AIM has recently upgraded its Post-Graduation Diploma in Management (PGDM) curriculum with all new business requirements such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Six Sigma, Digital marketing, R-programming, export and import documentation briefs, database management, HR analytics, to name some.
  • Our institute is primarily the only institute which provides many Indian government approved certification courses. This course makes our students aware of the working culture of the Indian government, and it is helpful also, as all big multinational companies have to work under the rules and regulations established by the government.
  • We have a dedicated team to groom and prepare all PGDM students with correct body language and a vision for their final placement. We even provide special classes for the campus recruitments.

Q. What are the top three initiatives undertaken by you that are helping your students become more industry-ready?

A. Apart from academic level initiative, we also that students must be given practical exposure:

  • Our students get paid summer internships, projects with real-life exposure and personal transform lab facilities, all these help to imbibe industry temperament in them. We even have close linkups with many corporate offices and industrial bodies such as  Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Competition Commission of India (CCI) and Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (ASSOCHAM), and others.
  • To make our students the best fit for the industrial work, we regularly provide industry visits, port visits (both dry and wet). We recently conducted an industry visit to Mother Dairy plant for our first year post-graduation diploma in management (PGDM) students on November 5.
  • We provide Entrepreneurial Lecture Series to every PGDM student, which ignites industrial working personality and helps students to start thinking like a leader. Along with this, we even provide Personal Transformation Lab and a dedicated incubation cell to help every student in redefining their destiny.

Q. What are the key attributes that a student should have in order to

A.  We look for graduates with good academic record, are regular  instudies and remaining attentive in every class.

Q. Which programme/s would you say is/are your best? What is it that helps your institution differentiate itself for this programme?

A. All of our programmes are par excellence and are regularly updated with the current business requirement with AICTE approval. Every programme is running with a 100 per cent placement track record with above-average salary in compared to other colleges.

Q. What are you doing to improve campus placements for your current students and alumni? What kind of jobs routinely come to campus? What would you say are the key recruitment trends for your college (observed over the past five years)?

A. Our college runs the Alma-Connect portal, where all passed out students remain proactively linked with the college and current batch PGDM students. They come to the college campus for regular guest lectures and to brief students with the real-time working culture of a corporate job. AIM has close tie up with many corporate and industrial bodies, FICCI, ASSHOCHAM, and CCI, to name some. This help in remaining updated with the change coming in the business world. We have active and vibrant team to prepare students for the campus selection.
