12th board results witnessed a role reversal for CBSE schools and state board schools this year. There are chances that CBSE students may grab more seat in premiere engineering colleges this year. Read further to know the details.
Tamil Nadu Board declared TN 12th Results 2020 on July 16, 2020. While the overall percentage of the Tamil Nadu Class 12 results stood at 92.3%, the number of students who scored above 95% fell significantly. It appears that the new question pattern and revised syllabus adversely affected the performance of the students who appeared for TN 12th Board Exams 2020. According to the TN 12th Results 2020 stats, Tirupur district topped the list with 97.12 % pass. Erode came second with 96.99% and the Chennai district secured 15th position with 93.45% pass. However, the less number of top scorer in the state board may make more CBSE students grab most seats in top engineering and veterinary colleges in the state due to their high marks.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared CBSE 12th Results 2020 on July 13, 2020, with an overall percentage of 88.78%. Almost, 1.57 lakh students scored over 90% and 38,686 scored over 95%. According to the experts, at least 1,000 CBSE students scored more than 95% in Tamil Nadu and fewer than 100 students of TN Board crossed this score. The experts also revealed that state board science students particularly scored fewer marks in mathematics and physics this year. Blaming the tough physics paper for the low scores, a City teacher said, “Though the paper was tough, we could not understand the unusually low score in maths and physics,” said another teacher. “We have centums only in computer science, accountancy and commerce. Though there were fewer centum last year, the students generally scored high marks,” said V Shanthi, headmistress of Vidyodaya Girls Higher Secondary School, T Nagar.
She further added, out of 120 students in our school, 21 students got above 95% marks and most of them are commerce students. “Usually, science students get more marks but this year it was the other way round.
Talking to a reputed source, R Rajkumar, headmaster, DRBCCC Higher Secondary School, Perambur said, “This is the first set facing exam under the revised syllabus. Our teachers and students were not trained for application-oriented questions. Science students scored at least 20% fewer marks than expected. Commerce students got more marks compared to science students. “Due to the higher-order-thinking questions, scores have come down in all schools in the science stream. There are no high scores across schools in TN,” he said. Adding further he said that these results would further dissuade students from taking science stream in Class XIl, “When we look at only the theory marks, they have scored even lesser marks,” Rajkumar said. P Swaminathan, secretary, SRV Schools in Trichy and Namakkal also believe that there is a tough competition between the CBSE 12thstudents and the Class 12 students of TN Board. The stats of both the results clearly stats CBSE students will get more admission to top colleges compared to last year.
While the pass percentage is higher in the state board as compared to the pass percentage recorded by CBSE, the number of top scorers are still more and this would give make more CBSE students take admission in top colleges such as Anna University and PSG College of Technology. However, B Purushothaman, senior principal of Everwin Group of Schools believes that the results may help state board students in the long run.
