Supreme Court dismisses a plea seeking cancellation of CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 compartment exams.

CBSE Compartment Exams 2020: The Supreme Court has rejected a plea seeking direction to the Central Board of Secondary (CBSE) to not conduct CBSE Class 10th and Class 12th compartment exams given the coronavirus situation across the country. The All India Students Association, AISA had earlier demanded the cancellation of CBSE Compartment Exams 2020 that is scheduled to start in September. CBSE had earlier said that it is necessary to conduct the compartment exams for the future of the students.

A bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari Sanjiv Khanna heard the case today, i.e. August 20. The bench said, β€œWe have already decided the plea and the CBSE has given reasons in its notification.”

The bench also informed that CBSE had already given out the reasons in the notification for compartment exams released. It asked the petitioner to file a plea challenging the notification. The students have raised the demand to pass those to appear in compartment exams with grace marks or internal assessment.

As per the letter sent to the Chief Ministers by AISA, β€œOver 2.2 lakh students including students of your state found themselves in the Compartment category by 1-7 marks. The said students demand the cancellation of the Compartment exam for the following reasons.”

In the letter, the students association mentioned that the state of uncertainty and confusion amid the ongoing COVID pandemic has caused a lot of mental health issues like depression, stress among students. They cited financial problems being faced by many families across the country as a reason along with a lack of resources that could make students unequipped to appear for the CBSE Compartment Exams 2020.

CBSE had started the online application process for CBSE Compartment Exams 2020 for CBSE Class 10th and CBSE Class 12th from August 12, 2020. However, the Board has not released the compartment exam dates yet. The Board had declared the CBSE 12th Results 2020 on July 13 and CBSE 10th Results 2020 on July 15.
