Considering the ongoing pandemic situation, GSEB decided to reduce the syllabus for Classes 9 to 12 by 30%.

GSEB Syllabus Reduced: Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) decided to reduce the syllabus for Classes 9 to 12 by 30% for the academic year 2020-21 considering the ongoing coronavirus pandemic situation. Besides, GSEB 10th exams 2021 and GSEB 12th exams 2021 will be held on May 21 and for class 9 and 11 exams will be conducted in the month of June next year. The decision was taken keeping in mind the course load on the students.

According to GSHSEB, the education department conducted various meetings regarding the same on July 23, August 20 and September 11. Opinions from educationists were also sought on the matter. Later, on September 29, a meeting held in the presence of Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama following which the decision to rationalise the syllabus was taken.
Talking about the decision to reduce the syllabus, State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said, "Schools are shut since March and classes are being conducted online. Considering the difficulties faced by students and parents, we held meetings four times with educationists where the concerns of parents and students regarding exams and syllabus were discussed. We have decided that exams for class 10,12 will be held on May 21 and for class 9,11 will be held in June. Keeping the same concerns in mind, we have also reduced 30% syllabus for classes 9 to 12 for 2020-21."

According to sources, earlier, the students and parents made a representation, demanding that the syllabus be rationalised which eventually led to the discussion and the decision to reduce approximately 30% of the syllabus. This means that the exam papers will not have questions from this 30% portion. The decision was taken so that studies are less stressful for students and they can prepare well for board exams, said, officials.

However, in order to help students retain all core concepts that will help them prepare for competitive exams, this particular 30% portion of the syllabus will be taught by the teachers.

The topics constituting the 30% portion to be reduced will be sent to district education officers who will inform schools about the same. Additionally, it will also be uploaded on the board's official website.
