COVID-19 Scare: IIM Kozhikode postpones convocation
The ceremony was to begin from April 3 with pre-convocation cultural night for students, their families, and the community of IIM-K, followed by the main convocation ceremony on the following day.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode or IIM-K has postponed its annual Convocation due to the prevailing emergency situations around the coronavirus/COVID-19. World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the disease as a Pandemic. The disease has created a mass breakdown in the educational system around the globe. Due to the prevailing situations, the business school has postponed the two-day convocation ceremony. The ceremony was to begin from April 3 with pre-convocation cultural night for students, their families, and the community of IIM-K, followed by the main convocation ceremony on the following day.
In an official statement regarding the change in schedule, Professor Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM Kozhikode stated that considering the health advisory issued by the government and WHO’s declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic, the institute took the decision to postpone the IIMK Convocation 2020 scheduled for April 3, 2020, and April 4, 2020, indefinitely.
He further added that the institute will stand by the guidelines issued by the governing bodies at the time when the world is struggling and combatting the unpredictable challenge. Being vigilant towards the developing situation, as a dutiful citizen, the IIMK is geared up internally to take on the challenge. The new dates for the convocation will be announced in due course of time.
During the IIMK convocation 2020, a total of 663 students belonging to different programmes and departments of the institute were expected to be awarded degrees at the 22nd Annual Convocation Programme, for one of the earliest IIMs in the country.
