The initiative will enable students to have access to mentorship services from industry experts, vernacular tech courses, and training in skills. It will eventually carve their skills and talents and make them job-ready, completely free of cost.

Alumni of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have come together to train around 5000 students coming from low-income backgrounds. “IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad-incubated Startup GUVIis launching a new Initiative called ‘Fly High’ to provide Free employability skilling to 5,000 Students from Economically Weaker Sections,” the official press note reads.

The initiative will enable students to have access to mentorship services from industry experts, vernacular tech courses, and training in skills. IIM-A and IIT-M alumis will eventually carve the skills and talents of these students and make them job-ready, completely free of cost. The scholarship is available for students with a lower socio-economic background or family income of less than Rs 3 lakhs per annum. In order to be eligible for the programme, students should have graduated in 2020, 2021, 2022 with a CGPA of 7 or above.

The press release adds, “Recognizing the barriers of students from weaker sections, the start-up is working to bridge the employability skill gap in IT and Software industry by providing an opportunity to students to upgrade themselves professionally through relevant technical skills.”

 ‘Sridevi Arunprakash Innovation Award’ is also being launched by the startup which carries a cash award of Rs 1 Lakh. Under this award, recognition will be given to budding women entrepreneurs with remarkable innovations in the Ed-tech industry. “The award winner will be selected by an eminent panel comprising of stalwarts in the field of EdTech Industry through Investing, such as Ms. Ragini Chaudhary, Director Investments, Caspian Venture Capital & Private Equity firm.”

“Remembering the visionary thoughts of Ms. Sridevi Arunprakash who had said, “Education is priceless, no one can steal it from you” and “Focus on improving, not proving,” GUVI has pledged to impart coding skills by offering free access to its gamified programming practice platform, HackerKid, to over 1,000 children supported by Non-Governmental Organizations such as BalaMandir Kamaraj Trust,” the press note adds.
