Mystory@Tanmay Shah: How I selected my course and college

Mystory@Tanmay Shah

By the time I was in Class XII, I had a clear liking for Chemistry, which got me into Chemical engineering. In my four years of engineering, I learnt more about the energy sector and the potential it holds.

I was exploring to find a technical master’s course in this field as I believe MBA with technical background is the best combo. Techno-commercial knowledge is always in demand in the market. And then one of my senior friends suggested me about the MBA (Energy and Environment) course in Symbiosis. I gave it a thought and did some study to find out which all companies come to campus, what’s the curriculum all about and also how energy and environment are related to each other. That’s how I made up my mind to join this course.

I still remember, the deadline for fee payment was 14th April and till 12th the bank loan was not sanctioned. Tension was at its peak and I was about to cancel my admission.

How I cracked Symbiosis admission

Having completed my bachelors in engineering, I tried my best to score well in all MBA entrance exams. I fared well in my exams and SNAP was the best thing that happened to me. I converted the call from SIIB. But the tough part of the admission decision was to do with the massive fee charged by Symbiosis. My dad was very worried about the college fee and my future. So being from a middle-class family with big dreams, I applied for loan from HDFC Credila. This was not easy with so much of documentation to be done. The office was in Pune, and being from a small town, I had to travel to Pune for every small document verification.

I still remember, the deadline for fee payment was 14th April and till 12th the loan was not sanctioned. Tension was at its peak and I was about to cancel my admission when I got a call from HDFC that I need to send all required documents on mail and my confirmation letter for the first disbursement of my college fee. That was the day of my life when I felt lucky and felt that Symbiosis Institute of International Business (SIIB), Pune was just the place that was made for me.

My college experience

As I joined my college, the very first day came as a shock to me. The stress level was too high with full-day classes, and no holidays even on Sundays. So spending time at Symbiosis is not so difficult as the college has taken all the care to keep students occupied from 9am to 6 pm. After that we have to cover all evaluations and presentations. I go to the gym as there’s one in our campus itself and play volleyball and TT. Let me mention here that I got selected in sports committee and then in my college team of table tennis.
The mess food is good but we get good Maggi and tea outside the campus, which completes the day. At SIC (Symbiosis Infotech Campus), once we go back to our D-hostel, the fun starts. I got my hostel room with three sharing, nice place with good air circulation. We have the bala’s food (Canteen) and Creamy Nuts cold drinks shop, which is open till 2am so that you never sleep hungry. So, the whole package is good and if I get a chance I would request the college to improve the mess food and have good sports facilities in D-hostel, which are provided at SIC.

At the end of my story, I will recommend all fellow mates to join this college as it will add a lot of value to your professional and personal life. Apart from good Summer internship projects (SIP), Symbiosis has given me so much to cherish. Everyone told me you can’t make good friends in masters, but this college has given me some good friends and many awesome memories in just one year and I’m excited to see what’s in store for me next year.

Thank You Shiksha for giving me this opportunity to express myself and share my story.
