CFP stands for Certified Financial Planner, a certification course offered by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd (FPSB). This course is exam-based, and students above 18 can select this course. It is a professional certification course that offers certification in financial planning. This course prepares students to work as financial planners, where students provide financial planning advice to clients following the highest ethical and professional standards. Students who have completed their higher secondary examination are eligible for this course. Graduates and undergraduates holding degrees such as B.Com, BFM, BBI, BIM, BMS, BBA, etc., and postgraduates studying CA Inter, CA, MBA, M. Com, CS, and LLB are eligible for this course. More than students, working professionals such as insurance advisors, mutual fund advisors, stockbrokers, and banking professionals can opt for this course for career advancement.

The purpose of this course is to ensure India has Certified Financial Planners who give people the right and ethical advice in adverse and uncertain times. The course duration is between six months and two years. When students complete this course depends on their ability to clear the examination.

Syllabus – Important Facts for Certified Financial Planner (CFP)

  • The course consists of two pathway eligibility:

CFP is a certified financial planner course with two eligibility pathways: the Regular Pathway and the Challenge Status Pathway. Students who have completed their matriculation and higher secondary examination and opt for a bachelor’s degree can be admitted to this course through the CFP Regular Pathway. Students who have completed CA Inter, CA, MBA, M. Com, CS, and LLB can opt for this course via the Challenge Status Pathway.

  • CFP has a course duration of 6 months to 2 years:

The Certified Financial Planner course is a 6-month to 2-year long programme. The duration a student takes depends on his/her ability to clear the CFP examination. As soon as students clear the examination, they will get the certification.

  • CFP is a self-study course:

Once students are admitted to the CFP course, they can get the syllabus from the FPBS website and start preparing for the exam. This is the self-study mode. Students can simply get the material of the course and start learning and giving exams as and when they’re due. Students are free to learn from anywhere. However, exams are held in the place or college where the course is being taken.

  • CFP consists of four specialist certifications:

This course by FPBS consists of four specialisations such as CFP in Investment Planning, CFP in Retirement and Tax Planning, CFP in Risk and Estate Planning, and CFP in Integrated Financial Planning.

  • General examination pattern:

The examination comprises Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). The exam duration is 3 hours, including all the sections, and students must attempt 170 questions.
