Q:   What is the effectiveness of the placement cell for B.A. programs at City College, Kolkata?

    A:
    {Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Effectiveness of Placement Cell for B.A. Programs at City College, Kolkata

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's an overview of the placement cell's effectiveness:

    * Student-led placement committee: According to some reviewers, the placement committee is student-run, without direct supervision from teachers.

    * Self-initiated internship opportunities: Some students mentioned that they fetched internships on their own, which ultimately led to job offers.

    * Limited involvement of recruiting companies: Unfortunately, none of the reviewers reported any major companies visiting the campus for recruitment purposes.

    * No guaranteed placements: As stated by several students, the college doesn't guarantee placements, and students need to apply for jobs independently after completing their courses.

In summary, while some students were able to secure internships and job offers through individual efforts, the placement cell seems to have limited impact, and students may need to rely on their own initiative to secure employment opportunities.

Note: These findings are based solely on the provided student and alumni reviews and may not reflect the entire picture of the placement cell's effectiveness.

Absolutely value for money. Fairly good faculty, Fair enough considering the cost of study.
Placements: This college does not provide any placement. One should apply for jobs after completing the courses. Because it is a government-sponsored college the only disadvantage is that you won't get that attention from the teachers. You have to take care of your studies and have to get knowledge and advice from wherever you get.
Infrastructure: This college doesn't have any hostel if anyone wants to study here who is not from Kolkata he/she should stay in P. G. Houses nearby. This college doesn't provide Wi-Fi on campus. The Classrooms are fairly good, College has a library but the books collection is not so good.
Faculty: Teachers are not so helpful if anyone wants to learn more then he/she could take a tuition. The curriculum is relevant but it won't make you industry-ready. But I think the other courses have more potential but you won't get placement or any advice about what to do Next.
Other: I wanted to know more about the ancient language of India and its significance, so I chose the subject. I think the college atmosphere could be improved and the teachers should pay more attention to the students, and the book collection must be improved by adding new books to the library.

I am very satisfied with faculty members of this college.
Placements: Around 150 students got placed in this course.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is great. Classrooms are spacious.
Faculty: Teachers are good. They are helpful and friendly. The teaching quality is better, so we can understand every topic.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in it. The best thing about this course is that we can gain in-depth knowledge. Our campus crowd is very good. Our campus surroundings are eco-friendly.

I am not satisfied with the students of this batch.
Placements: In this college, nearly a huge crowd was placed. Basically, I am pursuing political science honors. Regarding internships, I have no idea. So far no company visited our college for any internship or recruitment. I am a student who goes to college just to pass the time.
Infrastructure: Labs are available in our college. Classrooms are huge but very old. The library is available in our college. Our college does not have a playground. Our college has a canteen, but I never visited the canteen, so I can't tell you about it. I am a bit not satisfied with the infrastructure.
Faculty: Teachers are quite helpful. Especially, the teacher who teaches us political science. I am mentioning AKG sir because he is really helpful for the students who have pursued their subject language as English. Exams are difficult.

I have spent the best of my life in this college.
Placements: College provides a good number of study materials and teachers. Hons in history is boring but they helped me so much and I tried my best to gain success. There are no recruiting companies visiting campus.
Infrastructure: There is a Library in our college with a good collection of books and there is free Wi-Fi you can surf near about 1 GB per day and the data speed is fast. I don't know about the hostel but there is a college canteen that is neat and clean.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, caring, and supportive. There was a complete course of three years and this college is under Calcutta University. The course helps students for industry-ready. There is a semester system under Calcutta University so the semester questions are good. The pass percentage is about 80%.
Other: I have chosen this course because I love history since childhood and wanted to be a person with historical background and know about our past. There are so many cultural events held in our college fest, freshers, blood donation camps, etc.

    English department is great.
Placements: I am not really aware of the placements at the moment. The placement committee is run solely by the students and there is no teacher to monitor. But what I do know is that the students fetch for internships on their own and through that they enter into jobs.
Infrastructure: I went to city college, one of the best colleges for arts in centre Kolkata. Anti-ragging policies are strictly adhered to and students are friendly irrespective of their ranks and seniority. The college ensures hygiene and sanitation. The rooms could have been more spacious and a little better equipped with facilities like smart boards unlike the ordinary black boards in the majority of classes. Wi-Fi could have been better. We have a huge common room, a gym, a hygiene canteen with yummy dishes in a cheap rate.
Faculty: I have studied B.A. (hons) in English a literature subject which has built my character and my body language. Quality of teaching is excellent, faculty members are highly knowledgeable and supporting, yes I can say curriculum is updated and includes all the recent developments but still needs advanced technology based programming skills. Yes it has made me job-ready in various fields - Teaching, Translator, Officer in national language.
Other: Campus life is also good and cool over here. You'll find friendly and helpful people over here. This college will give you all the fun and memories which would be with you for lifetime. This college will help you in building your self confidence and self belief as you are the only person who can help you in every situation. You will have to give your 100% in self studies to achieve what you want in your life.

There is a fee hike of 5-10% every year, and you need to pay the fee semester-wise. Although you can get a scholarship, even that is not for sure and not an adequate amount. But the facilities provided by the campus are good. You can have access to the library in offline mode, but for that, you have to pay a nominal charge to make a library card.
