On Placements

Q:   How effective is the placement cell for B.Sc. courses at City College, Kolkata?

A:
{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Placement Cell Effectiveness

* Companies like TCS, Dabur, etc., visit the campus for placements.
* Students who secured 1st division or above were placed in various companies.
* The least salary offered is Rs. 15,000 per month.
* Roles in accounts, marketing, etc., are offered.

It appears that the placement cell at City College, Kolkata, is somewhat effective for B.Sc. courses, particularly for students who achieve high grades. While the exact numbers of students placed are unknown, it seems that several companies visit the campus for recruitment purposes. The range of salaries offered, while not exceptional, suggests that students can secure decent employment opportunities after graduation. However, more details on the placement statistics would be beneficial to gain a clearer picture of the effectiveness of the placement cell.

Q:   What is the effectiveness of the placement cell for B.A. programs at City College, Kolkata?

A:
{Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Effectiveness of Placement Cell for B.A. Programs at City College, Kolkata

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's an overview of the placement cell's effectiveness:

* Student-led placement committee: According to some reviewers, the placement committee is student-run, without direct supervision from teachers.

* Self-initiated internship opportunities: Some students mentioned that they fetched internships on their own, which ultimately led to job offers.

* Limited involvement of recruiting companies: Unfortunately, none of the reviewers reported any major companies visiting the campus for recruitment purposes.

* No guaranteed placements: As stated by several students, the college doesn't guarantee placements, and students need to apply for jobs independently after completing their courses.

In summary, while some students were able to secure internships and job offers through individual efforts, the placement cell seems to have limited impact, and students may need to rely on their own initiative to secure employment opportunities.

Note: These findings are based solely on the provided student and alumni reviews and may not reflect the entire picture of the placement cell's effectiveness.

I’m enough satisfied with the college and its faculty members.
Placements: Like 60% of students get placed. They generally get a package of like 1.4 LPA. Generally, the financial institutions come to provide placements. No such internship is given. Roles like accountant or assistant accountant are offered to the students of the college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is quite decent. There is a big building with a small garden area in the middle. The classes are good enough to provide comfort to like sixty to seventy students. A nice computer lab is also there. There are enough computers for the students.
Faculty: The faculty members or the teachers were highly qualified and extremely knowledgeable. They generally make learning easy, making studies easier for us. They are also very helpful and guide the students to their need. The course I did was relevant and I got to learn many things. The semester exams are quite difficult.
Other: I chose this course as I have an interest in this commerce background. The best thing about the course is that we got to learn the financial position of any company and what can be done to improve it. Along with the education, the college also conducts events which are quite interesting.

City College - The heart of Amherst Street
Placements: There are a total of 28 students in the batch of zoology Honors. There is no package of course. Basically some companies visits once for recruitment but that too just for the position such as sales agent. Internship is available but that is a part of the curriculum and no stipend is provided for that.
Infrastructure: The college has a huge library and on top of that each department has their own departmental library. Labs are not well maintained or established and no wifi facility is available, classrooms are ok. The canteen provides food at reasonable prices, medical facilities are not available.
Faculty: The teacher are really very supportive and helpful regarding studies. They provides quality notes and explains a topic quite well. The curriculum is very relevant as it will help in future to get jobs in many sectors such as forest service, zoo services, marine biologist, forensic sciences and aquaculture. The exams are difficult to pass .The passing percentage is 34.
Other: This course provides opportunities in diverse fields such as forest service, zoo services, marine biologist and forensic science. The college lacks cleanliness and hygiene along with that lift is absent which becomes a problem for climbing 4th floor. A lot of events and co curricular activities such as debate, quiz and inter college tournament are hosted every year and every year Sangrila is hosted for 5 days in the month of October.

Short note on city college.
Placements: Our college doesn't provide placement in any course, so there is no highest, lowest, or average package offered in our course. Also, there are no top recruiting companies. Our college doesn't provide any internship in any field, but if any student wants to do an internship, they can do it on their own. There are no roles offered in our course.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure of our college are average. There is no Wi-Fi connection on our campus, and labs and classrooms are also of a decent type. There is no library in our college. Our college doesn't provide hostel or mess facilities, but we have a small canteen on our campus, and the food quality is average. There are no medical facilities in our college, but we have a dedicated games room where all indoor games are present. We also have an annual sports day.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified and knowledgeable, but not all teachers are helpful. Their teaching quality is also average. This course curriculum is relevant to me because I am pursuing a CMA. No, this course doesn't make a student industry-ready. Semester exams are not very difficult, and the passing percentage is 80-85%.
Other: I choose this course because I want to pursue CMA.

Roam around city College .
Placements: There are like 150 students in each section. The college offers packages between 25 to 30 Lacs. Accountants and managers are the roles which are offered in our course. If you are only graduate but if you have done any other course, then you'll be paid more and would be given a better placement. .
Infrastructure: The college is situated in a heritage building established In 1881. Canteen is not hygienic at all but the campus is good to go and you will not regret taking admission in this college. Medical facilities are not so proper but they do annual sports every year.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified and are very good mentor. The exams are not so difficult. Allover it is quite good. It does not make the students totally ready for the industry. Pass percentage is 25% but scoring that is very difficult sometimes, it depends on students actually .

I would recommend this college to those who wants to pursue CA other wise no .
Placements: City college of commerce and business administration is best for those students who are perusing CA, CS, CMA in Kolkata as this college don't ask for attendance. We only visit college when we have or exams or to get admit card. City college doesn't guarantee any placement. So there is no highest or the lowest average package or top recruiting companies.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure of college building is good but college doesn't have their own hostel. College classroom is below average and we don't have any library in our college. Once we have tried our canteen, food was average but they do not maintain hygiene. Medical facilities are average and we have a sports room that is good to play indoor games and we also have a basketball court and a volleyball court.
Faculty: Some teachers are good but some are brainless. They are qualified and knowledgeable. Their teaching quality is a bit good. The course curriculum is relevant but it does not make you industry ready. Semester exams are not that much tough and the passing percentage is only 33%. .

College is best for those who are persuing CA/CMA but not for others.
Placements: Our college do not provide any placements. So there is no highest or lowest average package offered. And also no top recruiting companies. We dont get any internship from college side we need to find internship on our own. This college doesn't ask for attendance.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of our college is average but we don't have many labs. We just have 1 IT Lab. Our class rooms are descent at this price point. College do not provide any wi fi. We also don't have libraries. Our college do not provide any hostel or mess. Canteen is there but often it is closed. We have a sports room for playing indoor games. We also have basketball court.
Faculty: Teachers are not very qualified and knowledgeable but some teacher are very helpful and co operative. This course curriculum is relevant but it does not make students industry ready. Mainly the students present in this college are for CA/CS/CMA. I am also a student of CMA. Semester exams are not that much difficult and the passing percentage in exam is 33% and among students are 95%.
Other: I chose this course because i want to pursue my CMA side by side without getting delay in my graduation. As this college do not ask for attendance we only visit college when we need to appear for our semester exams. Some Teachers must be changed. Our college organize fest only on festivals. They provide scholarship to those student who are the residents of West Bengal.
