Q:   Is B.Com at Elphinstone College a good choice?

    A:
    {Source: B.Com students & alumni}

Here's what current and former students have to say:

    Faculty

    * Faculty is quite nice, with supportive professors who are well-educated and well-lived.
    * However, students need to take initiative to learn from them, as they don't take responsibility unless approached directly.
    * Teachers are generally helpful and knowledgeable, making students feel supported throughout their studies.

    Infrastructure

    * The college has decent infrastructure, with a good campus, gymkhana, IT labs, physics lab, chemistry lab, biology lab, and a few sports facilities (cricket, kabaddi, and rugby).
    * Free Wi-Fi is available, although it can only be used for 30 minutes.
    * Canteen services could improve, as many students reported unclean conditions and limited options.

    Placement Opportunities

    * Unfortunately, there are no placement opportunities at the college, which may limit job prospects after graduation.
    * Alumni reported that around 50% of Bachelor of Commerce graduates secure jobs, although the same companies may not offer placements every year.

    Challenges

    * Students mentioned that the college lacks industry-readiness, which might impact job prospects.
    * Exam difficulties vary, with some semesters being easier than others.

    Recommendation

Based on student feedback, while Elphinstone College offers a good education, it may lack certain essential features, such as placement opportunities and a focus on industry-readiness. Students considering admission should weigh these factors against the college's strengths before making a decision.

Please note that individual experiences may vary, and readers are encouraged to conduct further research to find the best fit for their academic goals.

Not at all worthy to take admission from the career point of view.
Placements: There is nothing such as a placement cell in the college. There are no placement opportunities at the college. I completed 3 years at the college, and I have seen a number of students in 3 batches, and not a single time have I heard that any of the students got placed in any kind of firm.
Infrastructure: The college was built at the time of British rule, and since then, it looks like the college has not been renovated at all. The college is more like an old museum than a college. There are 3 floors, and the floors are so huge that you need a lift to go from one floor to another, and the fact is that the college lift is not working.
Faculty: The faculty is quite nice. Each and every faculty member is so supportive. Each of the professors is a well-educated and well-living person. The only thing is that they do not take responsibility if you want to study, and if you want to learn from them, you have to approach them.
Other: The annual celebration is so nice. Everyone has a great time in the large hall.

Need modern teachers and the head of the department of commerce.
Placements: Elphinstone College is under Dr. Homi Baba University. Above 50% of students got placed in the Bachelors of commerce course. We get optional courses only in the second and the third years. The placements are not guaranteed by the same companies every year as new companies come here for requirements every year. If colleges treat students well, they will refer other new upcoming students to enroll in this college.
Infrastructure: Free Wi-Fi is available for students, but it is only usable for half an hour. The college has a gymkhana, IT lab, Physics lab, Chemistry lab, and Biology lab. The college also has a few sports facilities like cricket, kabaddi, and rugby. A medical facility was available, and the canteen was not good and not clean.
Faculty: Teachers were good and always one step ahead to help their students. Some teachers were not interested in communicating with students, but some were good. The course curriculum is relevant for future students, and it makes students industry-ready, and the exams are difficult, and about 60%of students clear all subjects.
Other: The staircase is big, and elevators are only allowed for college management, not for students. The classroom is old, and the electric fans are not working properly. The college basement is good.

The staff are not helpful, but the college is pretty good.

Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and quite knowledgeable. They are pretty young teachers, so they treat students very well. The course is pretty good, and it's quite relevant for future of students. It makes students industry-ready. Exams are quite difficult. Around 60% of students clear all subjects.
Other: B.Com is not a difficult course, and it's basic for commerce. It's not an expensive course. There should be more options for subjects. There are 3 main events in our college. Zeal is a sports event, and all the colleges are invited here to participate in sports like box cricket, ring football, chess, carrom and table tennis during Zeal. There are quite good scholarships for every course.

I am not satisfied with college placements.
Placements: Placements were not good for all students. Companies like TCS, Infosys, Persistent, Rsl issues job to only 20-30 students. Some companies reject students all the time. If students were looking only for bachelor degree, I would not recommend students to take admission in this college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this college was good. The campus was small, but the canteen and the maintenance were on the next level experience, because of britishers' design and style.
Faculty: Teachers were qualified and talented because this was a government college. They had to pass out exams. However, the faculty members were not good. This college doesn't make the students industry-ready. Semester exams were not tough, and they were easy. The pass percentage was 70%.
Other: I wish that to expand the campus and its exam faculty members. B.Com is not a difficult course so I am thinking to do M.Com.

This college look is vintage, properly manage, and good old days.
Placements: There were no placements in this college for B.Com. There should be one but not in this college. More companies would visit our campus to hire students. If colleges treat students good, then they will refer other new upcoming students to enroll in this college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was not good but it was vintage loot gets positive vibes. Classrooms were more spacious and clean. There was no Wi-Fi facility in this college. Medical facility was available, and the canteen was not good and not clean. Never use canteen in 5-year career.
Faculty: Teachers were good and always one step ahead to help their students. Some teachers were not interested in communicating with students, but some were good. The teaching quality was good, and the difficulty level of B.Com was easy to moderate. The pass percentage was 35%.
Other: In the year 2015 to 2018, there were no sports allowed to play on the campus ground and fewer sports were played by this college team and no passion in it. The principal was not interested in sports.

I am satisfied with this college and I would recommend joining this college.
Placements: In the present era of globalisation, employability is the test of education. The placement cell of the college works towards acquainting students with industries that look out for graduate and undergraduate students through workshops. Career fairs are organised regularly to help students to discover various options available to shape their careers. Self-finance courses have an impressive placement record. The placement cell also guides the choice of career. It organises career counseling lectures, aptitude tests to guide students, and workshops to develop interview skills. Different agencies like Wipro, Infosys, TCS, Akademia, Career Launcher, Times of India, MET, ITHM, Jetking, and NIIT have conducted seminars to create awareness about their organisation and offered placements to eligible students. In 2016, about 23 students received placement offers from Wipro and Infosys. About 10 students got placements by Wipro in 2015.
Infrastructure: Our college provides facilities like a canteen, girls' room, a library, and classrooms. There is a separate hostel facility available for girls and boys. The food is tasty and acceptable. The medical facility is quite good. Our college provides many games like rugby, badminton, cricket, football, and karate. Students are satisfied with games.
Faculty: Teachers are excellent. Teachers make students capable to work in any industry. Exam papers are set by teachers. The pass percentage is 60%. Semester exams are fine but some effort is needed by students. The quality of education is at the top.
Other: The crowd is a bit unacceptable. The college should be well-maintained. Staff members are slow, they take a long time to do some kind of help.
