Effectiveness of Placement Cell for B.A. Courses at SD College, Chandigarh

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's what we found out:

    * Limited Placements: Unfortunately, there are no placements available for B.A. students. The majority of students do not receive job offers or interviews.
    * Weak Placement Cell: The placement cell seems to be ineffective in providing opportunities for B.A. students. Seniors did not receive job or interview offers either.
    * No Internship Opportunities: As mentioned by several students, there are no internship opportunities available for B.A. students.
    * Only KPO and BPO Profiles: When companies do visit the campus, they typically offer KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) and BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) profiles, which may not be suitable for all students.

Don't take admission by seeing the advertisement and listening to others.
Placements: During my two years at college, I've noticed a lack of placement opportunities, which I haven't heard much about from our college. Many of my seniors who have graduated also reported that they did not find placement options available to them through our college. As a result, I feel discouraged about the chances of securing a placement through our institution. I believe there should be some initiatives in place to connect students with companies, including options for those who may not be achieving high grades. This way, all students could have a fair chance of being enrolled in any company through the college.
Infrastructure: I don't stay in the hostel. My friends have complained about the hostel food and maintenance. Wi-Fi is available for students, but it is not good. It doesn't connect and provide internet. Classrooms have broken benches. Fans are full of dust. Whiteboards are like they are never cleaned.
Faculty: Faculty members are not good. Our college should hire good teachers. Some of them don't come on time during the class timings. Some do not conduct class and send someone else. Teachers should be more active as many of them are lost while teaching.
Other: The campus is good but not as promised during the rainy season. The waterlogging problem is there on the campus and in the ground which is hard for students to move from one class to another class during rain.

Placements: While placement support is provided by GGDSD College through its Placement Cell, finding immediate jobs for the students is difficult. In general, it is quite tough, especially for humanities students. The exact placement percentage is approximately 20-30%. This percentage signifies the tough competition within the job market. However, B.Com and BBA students tend to receive good placements. The college has the PMLSD Business School on its campus, and the statistics are good.
Infrastructure: GGDSD College has good infrastructure; it gets jam-packed during MSTs and college fests. The campus features Roshan Lal Verma Block, Pt. Mohan Lal Block, and Universal Fraser Valley. The main auditorium is quite large, and there is a mini auditorium for seminars, along with an open sitting area. For sports and NCC activities, there is a ground. Other facilities include departmental halls in separate cabins, Nescafe, a canteen, a stationery shop, medical facilities, and a special automation cell for addressing student issues.
Faculty: The faculty members in the English department are exemplary. The professors are highly qualified; some have cleared NET, and others hold Ph.D. degrees and have vast experience, which makes them enthusiastic about teaching. The teaching methods they employ are engaging and effective in creating an interactive classroom environment. Teachers are very cooperative and extend invaluable support and guidance, fostering a euphoric academic atmosphere.
Other: Campus life is vibrant. The campus is lively and exciting, further enriched by the English Literary Club and SD Aadarsh Foundation. Events, fests, and activities from these clubs, as well as the Rotaract Club and Enactus Club, take place regularly, making the atmosphere dynamic. Students have ample opportunities to socialize, participate in enriching extracurricular activities, and engage in meaningful community service.

    Placement is in students favor.
Placements: The placement percentage for BA at Goswami Ganesh Dutta College in Chandigarh is approximately 20 to 30 percent. However, some say that BBA and BCOM students get better placement options in college. The business school has better statistics.
Infrastructure: I have not taken hostels in college. But my college friends say that their is very fair service at the college hostel so I am not very sure about the college hostel but it only looks like it is only good. And hostel mess and food are also not very good.
Faculty: This is a very costly college when we compare to other colleges in Chandigarh. There are very high examination fees and very rough examination experience in the college. Teachers are very unresponsive for the students. They do not listen to the students.
Other: College is the best but too expensive.

How to get Honours, Best faculty and the Best placements.
Placements: Mostly, 50% of students get recruited on the basis of their performance in an interview. The students have been offered the highest packages, such as 10-12 LPA, from leading companies that come to recruit in SD every year, like Apple, Lenovo, Samsung, Microsoft, etc.
Infrastructure: The college has well-managed infrastructure and facilities available for its students. The food provided in the mess is of good quality. The hostels of GGDSD are well-organized and a safe place for the students. GGDSD also encourages sports and organizes many sports events.
Faculty: The teaching faculty is very knowledgeable and helpful. GGDSD provides the best education to its students. Even exams are conducted very nicely here, though semester exams are quite lengthy and tough. The passing percentage for a subject is 25%, whereas the passing percentage overall is 33%.
Other: In order to get hons. One need to score more than 50% in both 1st and 2nd semester in that particular subject in which they want hons.

College is good! Go for it.
Placements: In eco-honours, around 80 students are in the college, and if we talk about packages, it depends on the students as to how much effort they put into their degree and also take part in curricular activities that help them make a better resume, and roughly, we can estimate INR 3 to 5 lacs.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is too good, and food in the mess is also good. They provide complete clean hygiene, and yes, they do have proper labs, AC classrooms, a library, and a reading hall. The college campus is also good, and of course, people are the best everywhere in Chandigarh.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are really very helpful. And semester exams are not that hard. If we talk about pass percentage, 33% is required to pass the exams. Eco-honours is such a demanding course because it is really helpful to get knowledge in the field of finance.
Other: If I talk about my decision to opt for this course, I would have a great interest in the field of finance!

I am satisfied with its campus life.
Placements: Hardly any student gets placement from our course, but B.Com. and B.A. students have a good chance to get placed. Companies like Accenture and Deloitte come here for placement drives. It is better to go for a PG course to get placed, which can give you a good job.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of classrooms was good. There were labs as per requirement. The college had a decent building. The hostel was also good. It had a gym. The food quality in the mess was good. A library was available with multiple floors. Computers and reading rooms were available with newspapers and magazines.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful. You just need to show your eagerness to study. Our course will be helpful to you to get a job after further studies, but it is hard to get a decent job just after the UG course. Semester exams were very easy. Questions are repeated every year.

    Admission FAQs

Q:   Is B.A. at SD College Chandigarh worth the investment?

    A:
    {Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Based on the reviews and feedback from students and alumni, here's a summary:

Teaching Quality: The faculty members are generally helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Some teachers are exceptional, while others may not be as effective.

Course Curriculum: While the course curriculum is relevant in some ways, some students feel that it lacks practical application and prepares students mainly for theoretical knowledge.

Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is adequate, with modern amenities like Wi-Fi, libraries, and IT rooms. However, some areas, such as the older classrooms and canteen, require renovation.

Job Placements: Job placements for B.A. graduates are limited, and hardly any internships are provided through the college. Students often rely on their own efforts to secure job opportunities.
