ICSI Appoints President and Vice President for 2020
January 19, 2020: CS Ashish Garg and CS Nagendra D Rao, fellow members of Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) have been appointed as President and Vice President of the institute, respectively, for 2020. Their tenure starts on January 19.
During his tenure as the Vice President of ICSI for the year 2019, CS Ashish Garg was the Chairman of Training & Educational Facilities Committee, Peer Review Board, Brand Promotion Committee. In 2018, as a Central Council Member, he was the Chairman of the Core Group of GST of ICSI and Centre of Corporate Governance, Research and Training (CCGRT). He was also nominated by the ICSI as a member at the Cost Accounting Standards Board of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. CS Garg has proved his dedication since his days as the Secretary and Vice Chairman of Indore Chapter of the ICSI in 2004 and 2005.
CS Nagendra D Rao is a full-time Practising Company Secretary and is the Designated Partner and Founder of Nagendra D. Rao & Associates LLP. He possesses over 15 years of experience in Corporate Sector and specialises in Corporate and Securities Laws, Capital Markets Transactions, Business Planning, Mergers & Acquisitions, Financial Restructuring, Strategic Investment, Funds Planning & Arrangement. He was elected to the Southern India Regional Council for two terms 2011 - 2014 & 2015 - 2018 and was the Chairman of Southern India Regional Council for the year 2015 and was also the member of the Central Taxes, Corporate Laws & GST Committee of the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry for the year 2018-19
ICSI Organises Round Table Conference of “Governance Beyond Compliance”
January 5, 2020: ICSI organised a two-day national conference in Mumbai, Maharashtra between January 4-5. The conference witnessed participation of over 500 people across country. It comprised of three strategic sessions related to professional interest, various motivational and special sessions with two special sessions dedicated to Expectations of the Board: CS as Catalyst to Board Functioning and Cyber Theft. Member National Company Law Tribunal Shri Rajasekhar V K were invited as Guest of Honour of the event.
ICSI Announces 100 per cent Fee Waiver Scheme for the students of Jammu & Kashmir (UT) and Ladakh (UT)
August 21, 2019: In order to promote progress in the regions of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, the Indian government is taking important steps. One such step is 100 per cent fee waiver of CS Foundation and Executive Program for students coming from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The scheme will be in effect from September 1, 2019. To avail the benefits of this scheme, applicant must fulfil the eligibility criteria which means the students must be a high school degree holder or bachelor’s degree holder, equivalent. Going ahead, Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Signature award will also be presented to highest scorer of Bachelor’s Degree Examinations in Commerce
Alongside, ICSI has also signed a MoU with Eliezer Joldan Memorial College with an aim to set up contact centres in Leh. The aim is to create awareness about CS as a profession amongst students of Leh and also provide them ample opportunities to bring them on board. The institute has over 100 centres at present across the country.
ICSI launches Unique Document Identification Number (UDIN)
July 9, 2019: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India has developed a unique program, in the form of a Unique Documentation Identification Number or UDIN, to seek a better sense of self-governance and create a practice side for the career of corporate secretaries. This aims at :
- Providing ease of maintaining Register of Attestation or Certification services,
- Prevent counterfeiting of various attestations or certifications,
- Ensure compliance w.r.t ceilings on the number of certifications or attestations,
- Enable stakeholders & regulators to verify genuinity of documents signed or certified by Company Secretaries in Practice
