Ph.D. in Mathematics - Batch of 2025
5
5Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Overall, the best college for Ph.D. in Mathematics courses.
Placements: Placements on campus were good in 2023, but as it's a research institute, it's bad beyond that, and most students move on to pursue higher degrees instead of jobs. However, the highest salary package offered is 23 LPA, while the lowest salary package offered is 18 LPA. Companies like Morgan Stanley, IBM, Microsoft, and others visit here to hire. Top positions include science writers and quantitative analysts. A lot of students secured internships.
Infrastructure: Hotel is very comfortable, with well-appointed rooms and common bathrooms. Wi-Fi and 24-hour electricity facilities are available. Mess has a vegetarian and vegan menu, with plenty of South Indian and North Indian dishes to choose from. There is also a clinic open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays.
Faculty: Each member of the IISER faculty is a scientist with a wealth of research expertise. Additionally, they have worked with international research institutes. Depending on students, it is challenging to average the tests over a semester. We can visit lab whenever we want and work on semester projects throughout the semester. Pass percentage is 87%.

Ph.D. in Mathematics - Batch of 2025

5Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Overall best College for Ph.D. in Mathematics Course.
Placements: Students at IISER Bhopal have access to excellent internship and job options. This college admits between 60 and 85 percent of the students. The typical stipend is between LPA 13 and LPA 27. Our college receives placement requests from a variety of R&D firms. This college also offers vocational training to its students. The most sought-after positions are those of cryptologist and data scientist.
Infrastructure: Laboratories and equipment manufacturing is one of the best in the country. They spend a lot of money on research tools. Hostels are also excellent; food is somewhat subjective; some like it, others don’t. There is adequate Wi-Fi, a library, lecture halls, and classrooms. The stadium is better than all other IISERs. Hospitals are fair, not very good.
Faculty: The key to success here is the staff and teachers. They are reputable, actual researchers who are well-known for their work. Students who complete this course will be ready for research opportunities. The study abroad research programme is a good fit for it. Although it is not easy or difficult, the semester exam is mediocre. 90% of the students passed.

B.S. in Mathematics + M.S. in Mathematics - Batch of 2028

A developing research institute in Central India for sciences.
Placements: For students of natural sciences, the placement opportunities are quite low as compared to economics and engineering students. However, due to the presence of departments like Maths and Physics, people can get some offers if they possess relevant skills.
Infrastructure: The hostel facilities are excellent if you get H8 or the new hostel being built in front of Ideation. But if you get old hostels like H6 or H7, the infrastructure is not that good. The rooms were originally for single occupancy and were later converted into double occupancies, resulting in less space for you and your roommate.
Faculty: Talking about the Mathematics department of IISERB, it's quite controversial. The department has a good number of faculty members, but the quality may vary. The students opting for a Maths major are very few compared to other departments. Many students, even some good ones, face academic issues after opting for a major in Mathematics. The primary reason is some rude professors and their strict marking system. Backlog students are much more in the Maths department, making it produce fewer graduates each year than other departments.
Other: I chose the course because I am pursuing Science as my career. The best thing about the BSMS program is that students get to know the ground realities of Science, such as how things are discovered or how research is done. One might want to check the details of each faculty member they are interested in pursuing a major with. According to the specialties of the topics one wants to do a thesis in, they can either join IISERB or another institution.

Underrated Level of IIT .
Placements: In the Economics course at IISER Bhopal, 19% of students were placed, while most pursued higher studies. The highest package offered was 37 LPA, the average package was 12-19 LPA, and the lowest was 6 LPA. Top recruiters included Deloitte, Amazon, Microsoft, Infosys, and Goldman Sachs. About 60% of students secured internships at companies like MITACS, DAAD, IBM, and Dr. Reddy's Laboratories. Top roles offered were Data Analyst, Research Scientist, Software Developer, and Financial Analyst. The course's strong focus on data analysis and quantitative skills makes students industry-ready.
Infrastructure: The Economics department at IISER Bhopal offers Wi-Fi-enabled classrooms, computer labs, and a well-stocked central library with resources like journals and research tools. Students have access to data analysis software such as R, Python, and Stata. Hostels are spacious, Wi-Fi-equipped, and offer 24/7 water, electricity, and common areas. The mess provides nutritious meals, with canteens for snacks. The medical center is available 24/7 with resident doctors and ambulance services. The campus has sports facilities including football and cricket grounds, basketball courts, indoor games, a gym, a swimming pool, and fitness centers to promote a balanced lifestyle.
Faculty: The faculty at IISER Bhopal is highly qualified, with professors holding PhDs from top universities. They are helpful, knowledgeable, and promote interactive, research-driven learning. The Economics curriculum is industry-relevant, focusing on data analysis, programming, and quantitative methods, making students industry-ready. Semester exams are concept-based and challenging, requiring a deep understanding of concepts rather than rote learning. The grading system is CGPA-based, and the pass percentage is above 90%. Continuous assessment through assignments, quizzes, and projects ensures comprehensive evaluation. Overall, the course equips students for careers in research, analytics, and consulting roles.
Other: Less reach and underrated .

One of the best research institutes of India- IISER Bhopal.
Placements: About 10% of the students get placed, as many students opt for a Ph.D. after a master's. The highest package received is 31 LPA. The lowest was 7 LPA. The average package is 22.5 LPA. Companies like Deloitte, Elucidata, Nucleome Informatics, and Unilever hire for their R&D departments. The internships are usually under professors of other top colleges for research purposes. The top roles offered are research and analytics head.
Infrastructure: The hostels are pretty good for a very cheap price. Rooms are double occupancy for students till 3rd-4th year and single occupancy for seniors. There is availability of clean drinking water and hot water 24/7. The mess food is decent for an average of Rs.3200 per month, depending on the mess. There are 7 hostels currently: 4 boys' and 3 girls' hostels, and 2 new hostels currently being constructed and 7 total messes. The classroom infrastructure is top-notch with AC, digital writing pads, a biometric attendance recorder and projectors in every. 500-capacity library. 24/7 Wi-Fi throughout campus.
Faculty: All the teaching staff have at least a Ph.D. and some with even multiple postdoctorates. The teaching quality is top-notch, with pros who have studied at IIT's, IISC and also abroad. The curriculum usually follows international standards. The 1st semester is usually easy, with subsequent semesters getting difficult. The pass percentage for each semester is about 85%.
Other: I chose the BSMS dual degree course because I have always been interested in basic sciences and wanted to be a scientist. The course focuses on a research-based approach, equipping you with research skills. IISER Bhopal also has MoUs with many institutions across India and abroad. The grading policy is a bit hectic, which could be improved. There is an annual science fest called "SINGULARITY" and an annual cultural fest called "ENTHUZIA.". Apart from these, there are multiple fairs and events throughout the year hosted by individual clubs. The connectivity of the college to the city is weak.

B.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences + M.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences - Batch of 2026
3.8
2Placements5Infrastructure4Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life3Value for Money
Really good faculty members, improving infrastructure and more opportunities to research.
Placements: IISER Bhopal is more or less a college that focuses more on research than placements. Placements are very few—nearly less than 10 percent. Since IISER Bhopal is the only IISER offering an engineering degree, a few of them opt for placements, and a very few from natural science go for placements. Others normally choose a Ph.D. and continue with postdoctoral work and research. I guess the packages are often within 30 LPA or more. I am not sure about the minimum offered. As research is one of the most underpaid careers, it's worth noting that annual packages are comparatively low. Almost 90 percent of students get a chance to intern, either paid or unpaid. I am a BSc in Earth and Environment Sciences, which has more opportunities for research as well as jobs abroad or at the at the national level. But some technical skills and programming languages are essential. I'll pass out in 2026, currently in my fourth year.
Infrastructure: We have free Wi-Fi everywhere. With great speed and good connectivity. The classrooms and departments are air-conditioned. We have a library but it cannot hold the total capacity of the students on the campus right now. But except during exam season, not that much rush is experienced. We rely more on online books and pdfs because very few copies of the originals are available. Rooms are double-shared. In the old hostels, rooms were small and built for single sharing but due to increased intake, we do share rooms. Washrooms are regularly cleaned and neat, except for some incidents of students not maintaining them. Food in some messes is great for the PHDs, but in others it is just eatable or average. But it varies according to the person. We do have vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Games and sports facilities are good and improving. We have good coaches and trainers.
Faculty: Teachers are helpful and qualified. Teaching quality is good in our department. Labs and TAs are also really good. The curriculum is mostly theoretical; we have to learn skills and programming in addition to being industry-ready. Semester exams are difficult because we do learn a lot in a 4-month semester. Pasa percent varies greatly according to professor and subject but there is a norm that only less than or equal to 30% of students fail. But there are instances where more than this number of students failed. Not everyone will pass; we have to work hard for it according to the relatively toughness of the course. Grading may be abstract or relatively simple. It is all up to the professor, including grading.
Other: I wanted to learn about Atmospheric and Climate Sciences in future so I chose EES as my major. The best things are great professors, good field trips, and the best basic theoretical and practical courses. If more skill- and programming-related things are involved, it would be better. We have an annual cultural festival, Enthuzia, the biggest in the college. Annual sports meet Sangarsh, annual arts and literary fest Called Arts and letters, Science fest Singularity and other cultural festivals of each state. Connectivity is bit difficult as a college is far from town. Scholarships are available like Inspire, etc. But nothing is provided by IISERs other than for SC / St category, where they don't pay tuition fee. There are some grant for students with greater academic background and CGPA. Sports, music club arts club and clubs of each department conduct extracurricular activities .
