Integrated M.Sc. + Ph.D. in Physical Science - Batch of 2026

5Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Overall best College for Integrated M.Sc. + Ph.D. in Physical Science Course.
Placements: About 50-65% of students at IISER, Mohali, are placed in our course. The average offer in our poll fell between 10 and 27 LPA. Many R&D companies seek our college to place students. Goldman Sachs, IOCL, Asian Paints, and others are top recruiters. Higher-level positions such as theoretical physicist and research scientist were available. This college also offers internships to students.
Infrastructure: In the early years, you would have twice as many people. Each room has a LAN and a bunk bed for two. The bathrooms are generally renovated. The mess food is better than that of other colleges in India by various standards. There are two full-time restaurants for lunch and dinner as well. The clinic is available 24x7 at the hotels. Almost every sport and game can be found here.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified; they have PhDs and postdocs from most major institutions. If you go to them, they will guide you. The study design is poor but provides a basic understanding of the underlying mechanisms. The passing percentage is usually subject to change at the discretion of the instructor. Semester exams are easy, and the pass rate is 73%.

A very good institute and good infrastructure but very bad placements.
Placements: About only 10 students got placed because it is a research institute, but students went abroad for higher studies like Ph.D. in well-known universities across the world. The average package of placed students is about 8 LPA, so if you are looking for placements, this institute is not for you.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this institute is very good. Labs are also good. Classrooms and labs have ACs. Wi-Fi is also provided to students, and the library of this institute is one of the best libraries in India. The quality of food available in the mess and canteen is also okay.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, and each of them has a minimum degree of Ph.D. They are very knowledgeable in their respective subjects, and the teaching quality is also good. The semester exams are easy for first-year students. The passing percentage has no sense there because there is a relatively grading system.
Other: I have chosen this course because I have an interest in research, and this is one of the best research institutes in India. There are many events in the odd semester but not in the even semester.

College is your type if you are an aspiring scientist.
Placements: The placement environment here is not yet developed, though there is an opportunity cell that handles all this, which is also quite new. Moreover, most students after graduation from here pursue Ph.D. and postdoctoral studies, and for these, IISER Mohali provides good exposure and ample opportunities.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is satisfactory. Wi-Fi works fine, and the labs are nice. Lecture halls are very nice with good lighting, air conditioning, projectors, etc. Food is fine, in my opinion. The breakfast is very good but sometimes they serve very bad-tasting food in lunch or dinner. There are 2 canteens run by private vendors, one food outlet in lecture hall complex ("munching adda"), 2 restaurant-type outlets ( or dhaba-type outlets in shopping complex) and one canteen run by student mess committee. Medical facilities are fine, and there is also all-time availability of ambulance. We have a very big sports complex with big stadium-type ground, nets, and basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts (2 each) One gym and one open gym are also .
Faculty: Teachers are very qualified. All of them have done their Ph.D.s and postdocs from some of the most prestigious institutes in India and abroad. course curriculum is relevant for research. No, it doesn't make you industry-ready. You have to work yourself if you want to make a career in industry. Difficulty depends on the instructor. However, since relatively strict grading is followed, most students pass the courses .

IISER Mohali 2024 glimpses.
Placements: Placements are very low and often low package if available. Usually data science minors may opt for placements. Most people opt for PhDs after BS-MS. Since it is not a professional course, there's flexibility in choosing careers. Some may even go for corporate jobs or government jobs unrelated to their topic.
Infrastructure: Students wifi is available almost everywhere at the campus. Labs are the most fun place, well maintained and rare instruments are present. A 7-floor library is available for use. Most study-related books can be taken from the library itself. Students run mess and the canteen operates throughout the year and offers good-quality food.
Faculty: Teachers are well-qualified; they have PhDs and postdocs from the top most institutions. They will guide you if you reach out to them. The course curriculum is not the best but offers a basic understanding of the underlying properties. Pass percentages are often subject to change according to the instructor.
Other: Since Indians are multicultural, we often celebrate almost all the festivities, including Holi, Diwali, Onam, Pongal, Ganesh Chaturthi, Garba, etc. Top ranking and global accreditation are two of the reasons I chose ISM.

A good all rounder institute, and one of the best places to pursue research in India.
Placements: IISER Mohali doesn't have placements like typical engineering colleges. It is a research institute, and hence students opt to pursue higher education instead, I. e. PhDs. There are no packages offered but students wishing to work in the industry find jobs in R&D departments of companies. Many students wish to work as professors and go into education. You have the option to take a BS exist as well, without completing the whole BSMS course. Internships are provided to pursue research within the country and abroad.
Infrastructure: Although lifestyle here isn't extravagant, hostel and mess facilities at IISER Mohali are pretty good compared to a lot of other institutes in India. There exist multiple mess options, both subscription and coupon based. The quality of the food is decent and the menu is varied often. Wi-fi speed can vary depending upon how close you are to the routers, but it can cross 200-300 mbps at certain locations. IISER Mohali has one of the largest institute libraries in the country, 7 stories high, and is also air conditioned. Some floors start on throughout the night. There are two buildings solely dedicated to various labs and classrooms. Lectures take place in a lecture hall complex which consists of around 7 halls, varying in sizes. There is a large health center building which stays largely unused. You will get basic healthcare facilities there, along with therapists if you require them. There are two canteens, which are decent at best, but they get the job done. There is a sports complex and a community center. Sports facilities are good for sports like tennis, volleyball, cricket, football, badminton, and basketball. Table tennis, kabaddi, and other sports, not so much. Overall, quality of life at IISER Mohali is comfortable and satisfactory.
Faculty: The teachers are a mixed batch. Some of them will almost treat you like family, some will try to stay as detached from students as possible. The curriculum is decided by the teacher of the particular course, and the grading is revised every year if the professor so choose. Exams and study material for the first two years is very easy if you put in the time and effort. The other three years, the major years, will have you study the courses of your choice. Most students pass with ease. The course content is very up to date with the research happening in the field.
Other: The student culture at IISER Mohali is one of its the biggest strengths. There is near to no ragging, seniors are almost always helpful and supportive, and students treat each others as equal. We have been known to hold protests if things are wrong and unjust and there is an appreciable amount of unity among the student body. There are a lot of academic and cultural clubs here, with events happening very frequently. It is a very lively campus in that aspect. I spent a sizable part of my first two years doing a lot of extracurricular work.

College has good infrastructure and good academics.
Placements: There is a placement cell in our college and they provide training, and placement assistance also. Top recruiters' names that visit our college are Cognizant, IBM, TCS, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, etc. Last year the highest package was 15 LPA and the average package was 8 LPA. In the final year, the college provides 3-4 months internships and around 80% of students got internships from college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the institute is good and awesome. Classrooms are well-equipped with projectors, and digital boards, and they have 70 students capacity easily. The college provides medical, sports, and other facilities also. The campus size is huge and there are plenty of places available for study. The college provides hostel facilities also for boys and girls.
Faculty: The faculty member of my course is very kind. The professors are approachable and willing to help if you have any doubts. In each semester there are a total of 8 subjects and professors help us understand topics very well. Exams are conducted each month (2 practice tests) and then the final exam. In the final exam, almost all students passed easily.
