Charting the Future of Higher Education

September 27, 2023: Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to become a major player in the rapidly changing global higher education scene. Its revolutionary potential extends to all areas of education, so we must anticipate and maximize its good effects from the beginning. Professors Russell Cross, Therese Hopfenbeck, and Lisa McKay Brown led a delegation from the University of Melbourne on a promising visit to Jio Institute, with the goal of staying ahead of the curve.

Their visit was crucial to comprehending the developments in AI education today. The group thoroughly examined the Jio Institute's resources and facilities, evaluating how these elements enable students to learn as much as possible.

The senior leadership of Jio Institute had lengthy discussions with the University of Melbourne staff about improving their higher education offerings. The key idea was that in order to match education with the ever-changing business environment, curricula should be customized and industry-intensive projects should be integrated.

Additionally, both parties looked into potential avenues for cooperation between the Jio Institute and the University of Melbourne. Discussions about joint initiatives were spurred by common interests; these projects would facilitate the sharing of best practices in education and connect the potential of Jio Institute with the University of Melbourne's worldwide vision.

This visit was a major step toward focusing on innovation and cross-border collaboration as we shape higher education through the lens of artificial intelligence.

Transforming Skill Development in Education

September 19, 2023: Prof. Dr. Neharika Vohra’s lively conversation with the Jio Institute staff and students brought to life the idea of creating new pathways for vocational training to add practical value to formal education. Training to be skilled is similar to training to be resourceful.

In her speech, Dr. Neharika discussed the importance of investing in skill sets and assisting individuals in determining which skill set will best advance their careers in their chosen fields. She also emphasised the importance of investing time and effort into researching the most up-to-date and in-demand skill sets across various industries.

She reiterated that courses ought to be made to withstand the dynamic nature of the different industries, where new demands from both working professionals and students are continually being made and the definition and scope of relevant skill sets are always shifting.

The staff and students who attended the session raised some interesting questions. They wanted to know what insights Dr. Neharika had gained from her extensive experience in the field, as well as how they could improve their skill sets and adjust to the ever-changing nature of the job market to remain relevant and in demand.

Embracing the AI Challenge with New Age Skill Sets

September 05, 2023: Whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing at a breakneck pace into every aspect of human existence and will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the future.

In order to address issues, explore ethical, policy, and practical implications, and discuss the most recent advancements in artificial intelligence, Jio Institute arranged a special conclave for its students and alumni titled “Embracing AI Disruption – Skill Sets Required in the Changing Workplace.”

Industry insiders from a range of disciplines discussed the extent of AI disruptions and offered their insights. They claimed that while AI will require skill adaptation, it does not pose an inherent threat to jobs. The speakers also emphasised the significance of modernising laws that are already in place, such as the Digital India Act, which has not changed in 20 years despite numerous changes in the global and Indian digital landscapes.

Most speakers agreed that rather than being viewed as a challenge, AI should be seen as an opportunity. There were differing opinions as well, with some speakers believing that new opportunities will arise and some jobs will become obsolete. They contended that AI technologies should be seen as an opportunity to adapt, evolve, and learn.

The conclave was planned as a component of the Jio Institute students’ collaborative learning programme, with the goal of exposing students to real-world scenarios—which is the foundation of experiential learning.

Speakers on the panel included Mr. Samir Shah, an executive director at PwC with expertise in data and analytics; Mr. Arindam Ghosh, chief technical officer and head of corporate strategy and digital at Star Union Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. Ltd.; and Dr. Subi Chaturvedi, global senior vice president and chief corporate affairs and public policy officer at InMobi. Dr. Raveendra Chittoor, dean of Jio Institute’s School of Professional Studies & Executive Education, moderated the panel.
