School of Life Science - The place where researchers are born.
Placements: Being a novel course on its own, M. Res stands one of it's kind currently in Indian education curriculum. There were 2 people in the first batch (2017-2019) who gained richly from 1.5-year dissertation project under the esteemed faculty who have been a guide and a friend throughout. The student is allowed to indulge in research based training first-hand as they learn instrumentation and ways of scientific writing proving valuable in their pursuit of a career in research. Due to the limited amount of students, there is no campus placement as of now but students get a chance to continue as JRF and RA in various projects post completion of degree, along with many companies like Biocon, Syngene and Enzyne who appreciate the reputed MSols alumni. Many students from the current batch are employed at InStem, 3i technologies, Biocon and other research based organizations.
Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure provided in the college and other associated departments truly meet their description of state-of-the-art. The highly specialised and modern instruments are available to students to strengthen their hands-on approach in experimentation. The classroom facilities and lab space are adequate and very well maintained by a well-equipped team of technicians and lab assistants. The hostels are very close to the campus interspersed between colleges in the university town with availability to cafeterias and library almost all the time. The mess and canteen are well maintained with lots of students preferring it for their daily meal intake which is quite subsidized and healthy as well.
Faculty: The faculty of Manipal School of Life Science are quite proficient in their jobs as teachers and lab mentors to handle students in Bachelors and Masters level along with providing adequate time for carrying out high impact original research throughout. The multi-facility labs are always open for new opportunities and accept new ideas with enthusiasm. The method of carrying out research is quite independent, making a students self-sustaining and proficient in their academic performance as well as relevant training for industrial sectors and jobs after their degree completion.

Really good infrastructure.
Placements: The placement is on research based. If the company is coming to the college for placements then it takes place otherwise if someone wants to pursue his or her career as in research field then what is the point of campus placement. Campus placement depend on students interest.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, labs are well-equipped, furnished classrooms, library is central and one of the biggest, various sports and games activities are held. Quality of lab and classroom is really good. Quality of food in the canteen is average. Hostel rooms are good.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful, well qualified and knowledgeable. Teaching quality of some teachers were very good and of some we're average. Student to faculty ratio was 6:1. No I didn't get the industry exposure. Yes course curriculum was really good and useful.
Other: Yearly fest takes place named Utsav. Campus crowd is really good. And the Wi-Fi connectivity is excellent. Scholarships are provided to the meritorious students.

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics - Batch of 2016

Manipal, Karnataka, India, is once in a lifetime experience. I am lucky to be a part of its journey.
Placements: There are no placements offered for the M.Sc. course in Bioinformatics (School of Life Sciences), Manipal yet. Although, many international and national academic events that take place often in the university, where every student can make useful connections for his/her plans.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our institution, School of Life Sciences(in particular), in Manipal is good and creates a positive vibe. The classrooms are comfortable and are available in more than sufficient numbers. The labs are equipped with all kinds of high-class instruments, and each used regularly and well-maintained. For the M.Sc. Bioinformatics course, there is a neat computer lab maintained with about 50 computer systems each pre-installed essential software. They even have a server system to carry out high-performance computing tasks. Moreover, Bioinformatics is not just restricted to the computer lab but is involved in all research projects in all the labs in the institution. This increases the scope and provides more interdisciplinary options while taking up projects. Also, there is a cozy, comfortable canteen attached to our institution building. The canteen has a friendly environment, and the food is well-nourished, home-cooked, tasty, and its prices are subsidised. The special dishes are made on popular occasions. The menu in the canteen slightly changes every day so that you don't get bored easily. Apart from our institution, the rest of the university also maintains a high standard and provides a great campus life.
Faculty: Our lecturers, professors, seniors, etc., were a good company during our college life. They still are, even today, after I graduated in 2016. They're friendly, supportive, and informal at times, which makes us feel comfortable with them in and outside our institution. In the aspect of teaching, I loved their belief in practicality. They push students to think outside the box, think practical, involved in activities, perform well academically, and ultimately play a role in changing us for good. There were events constantly organised in the university, and we were encouraged to attend them to get some exposure to international research and scientific industrial work. We also interacted with delegates during conferences, other events, and had a good experience. Our curriculum covered interesting and useful topics, our lecturers are well-qualified, smart, and knowledgeable, but to score high, we also needed to do our research in the library/on the internet, expand our knowledge apart from studying from our notes/books. Our lecturers also helped in keeping us active that way by giving us assignments and asking us to research on our own. One cannot depend only on the fixed curriculum to score well and achieve excellence in future.
Other: The non-academic events and the fests are one of the best and most enjoyable in Manipal. The large investments are made to maintain the standard of the event and to captivate the crowd. The student committee works hard towards these events, which are praised massively by the crowd at the end. I am a dancer myself, having performed many times on stage, and an enthusiast in sports too. I must say that there are heavy commitments towards encouraging sports and extracurricular activities throughout the university. The campus crowd is great and lively. But of course, when freedom is given to masses of students, there is always misbehaviour involved, which may/may not lead to serious damage at times, and that is the reason one should always know their limits. Choose a good company and be under the influence of good people, while enjoying their campus life, and that is the case with every campus. These are the experiences, which become integral parts of our life, for memories for a lifetime, help us mature and teach us many things at the end. The campus is huge, connectivity by road is great and well-being maintained. Moreover, they even have a campus police department to ensure safety and discipline throughout the place at all times. Most students have 2-wheeler to commute. The others take a walk or travel in auto rickshaws. The campus surroundings are great and student-friendly.

Other: This college is for research-oriented people. The infrastructure, course and the faculty members are in line with the need of the students where they get ample opportunity and experience both in-house labs and through courses pursued off campus. Yes, there are a few subjects which need to be followed and courses need to be taken in other colleges as part of the collaboration. Physiology, anatomy with Medical Students, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physical Chemistry and rest are some which are to be taken outside MLSC. The staff members are good to the mix of experience. Though most of them are localities, a handful of them are really good and would guide for the next steps in your future courses. The last semester internship, assignment for research purpose gives a lot of first-hand experience with the research methodology, background, documentation etc and the work, lab results, theory gives us the insight into the level of detail expected in the field. Overall, its a wonderful experience of 3 years. But it is important to know where you belong and choose your course with caution.

Review of School of Life Sciences.
Placements: There were no placements for this particular course. It is advised to do your masters before taking up a job. Hence, there were no placement opportunities provided to us. In the research field, it is the best to finish your masters, PhD and then get a job. Other options would be to study MBA and related courses.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of all MAHE colleges is top-notch. There are very good labs with good and advanced equipment required for each subject. Hostels are well maintained, and all the facilities are provided. There are good options in college and hostel mess. Medical and sports facilities are very good.
Faculty: Teachers in School of Life Sciences are very knowledgeable and guide the students very well. Most of them are PhD holders from reputable universities. The course consists of 50% theory and 50% practicals. The curriculum could be designed better to make it more relevant.
