The Master of Design (MDes) programme at the National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad is considered to be one of the top design programmes in India and is highly respected in the field of design education. NID Ahmedabad has a long-standing reputation for providing a high-quality design education, and the MDes programme is no exception. The total tuition fee for MDes at NID Ahmedabad is INR 10.67 lakh. MDes is a two and half-year course divided into five semesters and the fee for each semester is INR 2.13 lakh. NID Ahmedabad offers MDes in 7 specialisations to students which are Animation Film Design, Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design, and Textile Design. The duration of the course is for 2 years. Candidates need to clear the NID Entrance Exam. NID Ahmedabad eligibility and selection criteria for MDes course:

Selection criteria: DAT Prelims (30% weightage) + DAT Mains (70% weightage, including studio test-40% and interview-30%)

Eligibility: A pass in Bachelor's degree of a minimum of four-year duration in any stream or a full-time Diploma of four-year duration in Design, Fine Arts, Applied Arts and Architecture or three-year Bachelor's degree is required to apply for MDes course. Additionally, candidates must be born on or after July 1, 1992 (July 1, 1989 for SC/ ST).

 Pass in graduation and only candidates born on or after 1 July 1991 are eligible to apply for admission to the General Category and EWS Category. Only Indians born after 1 July 1988 may apply for admission if they belong to the Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBCNCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST).

• Educational Qualification: Any university or institute recognised by law in India must award a Bachelor's degree of at least four years duration in any specialisation after the 12th standard. Candidate must have passed the Bachelor's Degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in May 2023.

NID Ahmedabad admission 2024 is based on NID Design Aptitude Test conducted for both B. Des and M.Des courses. The Design Aptitude Test comprises two steps:

DAT Prelims - The applicant takes the Prelims test initially.

DAT Mains - Candidates are chosen for DAT Mains based on their performance in that Prelims.

For admission to the BDes or MDes course, it is mandatory to appear in both that Prelims and that Mains. NID DAT Prelims comprises both objective- and subjective-type questions. Candidates must have a well-thought-out NID study plan if they want to ace the test. Candidates might adhere to the following preparation schedule for the NID Entrance Exam 2024: 

1. Know the NID DAT exam pattern and marking scheme well 
2. Get well-versed with the NID DAT syllabus
3. Prepare a time-table and strictly adhere to it
4. Attempt NID DAT previous year question papers 
5. Solve NID DAT sample papers and mock tests 
6. Keep revising.

NID Ahmedabad cutoff to BDes and MDes courses is based on NID DAT followed by counselling. The Open rank for BDes for NID Ahmedabad cutoff 2024 offered through NID DAT is estimated to be around 47, with a cutoff score of 65.8. For MDes, candidates must have around 80 - 95.4 score in NID DAT for NID Ahmedabad admission.

The aforementioned score and cutoff are anticipated on the basis of previous year trends for Open category students for a total seat of 144.

NID Ahmedabad provides modern amenities with state-of-the-art infrastructure to its students. NID Ahmedabad has a wide range of facilities for students. The campus has modern infrastructure that provides a comfortable environment for students. National Institute of Design Ahmedabad facilities include boys and girls hostels with mess, central library, Wi-Fi connectivity, modern classrooms etc. Hostel accommodation is allocated only for a year and students have to apply for reallocation every year. NID Ahmedabad has facilities for indoor and outdoor games as well. The guest house of the university is used for the accommodation of students' parents. No, candidates cannot directly join NID Ahmedabad for any program, including undergraduate (BDes) or postgraduate (MDes) courses. There is no such provision for direct admission at NID Bangalore. Admission to all programs at NID Ahmedabad, and across all NID campuses, is solely based on a rigorous entrance exam process involving the National Institute of Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT). The NID DAT is a two-stage exam comprising:

1. Prelims: This objective-type computer-based test assesses design aptitude, general knowledge, and observation skills. 

2. Mains: Shortlisted candidates from the Prelims undergo studio tests and a personal interview to evaluate their design thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
