Admission Process

Entrance Test
Eligible candidates need to appear for the written test that is Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology.
Situation Test
Shortlisted candidates will be called for Situation Test based on the score obtained in CAT and GAT.
Counselling
Admission is through counseling based on the rank obtained in CAT/ GAT score and performance in SituationTest. Selection parameters and weightages: CAT: 50% GAT: 30% Situation Test: 20% For candidates belonging to Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI category, admission is on the basis of SAT score. In case seats remain vacant for NRI category, students belonging to “Children/Wards of NRI” category with valid Common Merit Rank (CMR) can apply by giving a special NRI Test.

Strict faculty, average infrastructure, and great exposure.

Placements: The placements offered have not been good for a couple of years because the market has been down for a while. Otherwise, the placements are generally good. The various textile industries like Arvind mills, Raymonds, Ashima, etc visit the campus for the placement. The salary solely depends on the company you get placed in. It starts from about Rs. 3.5 lakhs per annum.

Infrastructure: There is a girls hostel just for the freshers. The campus is well equipped with Wi-Fi facility and most of the classrooms have an AC installed. The Library is updated and has a material wing to explore the different materials and textiles. The labs are well equipped with extremely supportive lab assistants. One issue is that the weaving looms are not seated, so it's extremely tedious to work continuously for 10 hours.

Faculty: NIFT, Gandhinagar, has one of the most senior and expert faculty members. They have an ample amount of industrial experience and some of them are well known in the industry. Each faculty has a different teaching method depending upon the module. some believe in chalkboard and the presentations while others believe in practicality. One warning I would like to give is that the curriculum for textile design is extremely tedious and demands not only the college hours but also your sleeping hours. The faculty are extremely strict about the quality and the quantity of work.

An overall creative journey.

Placements: Placements were not very prolific. Not sure of the percentage of the placements. Salary offered was below expectations starting from the range to 2 LPA to 5.5 LPA being the highest. Future group, Reliance Industries, Landmark and a lot of creative startups like Urban ladder were present.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college was appealing and a conducive one for creativity. Wi-Fi and internet services were inconvenient. Food service was excellent. Hostel rooms were clean and there was proper ventilation. There were no issues in college regarding the infrastructure.

Faculty: Faculty in the initial years was more experienced and encouraged in taking a direction. Teaching methods were mostly practical and I feel could be more open and less restricted. An easy acceptance towards an idea and opportunities to pursue more are something that I feel is needed to be more on a personal basis between the faculty and the student.
