Q:   Should I choose NIT Warangal over NIT Rourkela for M.Sc in Physics?

    A:

National Institute of Technology Warangal and National institute of Technology Rourkela are the two prominent colleges for MSc admissions. Both colleges accept CCMN scores for the admission to the MSc courses. NIT Warangal Last Round cutoff score for MSc in Engineering Physics specialisation stood at 1483 and 1271 for 2023 and 2024, respectively. Similarly, NIT Rourkela cutoff score for the Last Round stood at 812 and 949 for 2023 and 2024, respectively.

As per the cutoff information available, it can be observed that NIT Warangal is comparatively more demanding among the candidates for MSc in Physics specialisation. So, It depends on the marks of the candidates, If they have marks under the range of cutoffs specified for NIT Warangal, then they can go for it. However, NIT Rourkela would be a better alternative for candidates aiming for NIT Warangal with low marks than the cutoff:

Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for M.Sc. students at NIT Warangal?

    A:
    {Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Placement Cell Success Rate for M.Sc Students at NIT Warangal

According to student reviews, here's what they have to say about the placement cell:

    * About 60% of students from their course got placed (Source: Student Review)
    * Few placements are available for Master's students (Source: Student Review)
    * M.Sc. Chemistry students typically get placed in coaching companies or some private firms (Source: Student Review)

While these reviews indicate that the placement cell does secure some jobs for M.Sc students, the numbers may not be as impressive as those for B.Tech students. However, the placement cell still plays an essential role in connecting students with potential employers.

Students and faculty members are very friendly.
Placements: In our course, students from 3rd year are eligible for placements. I'm not aware of campus placement, but my brother got placed in L&T company. Placement structure is enhanced after we finish the second year. I plan to pursue a Master's from here.
Infrastructure: Hostels are adjustable, and rooms are good, but washrooms are not that good. Some are good, but on some floors such as for B.Tech 1st year and M.Tech washrooms are quite bad. To be honest, they are adjustable. Staff is moderately cooperative.
Faculty: I have heard that there are more than 1000 faculty members including all departments. Around 50,000 students from all departments. The ratio of students to faculty members is equal. Exams our department conducts 1 unit test, 1 internal and one external. There are marks provided by faculty members for a quiz, notebooks, assignments, etc.
Other: Campus life is fun, NITW is filled with various clubs and programs, festivals, and many more. We have sports-based competitions such as inter-NIT sports. There are dance programs, drama, music, instruments, quizzes, and many more fun activities.

A lot of facilities for students are available to enjoy and have fun.
Placements: As a 1st year student, I have very little knowledge of the internship opportunities or stipend. I heard that campus internships are very good and are worth your time. The final semester's project is conducted on what we have done in our internship. We can visit various IITS, top MNCs, etc.
Infrastructure: The campus life is fun. NITW is filled with various clubs, programs, festivals, and many more. We have sports-based competitions, inter-NIT sports, dance programs, drama, music, instruments, quizzes, and many fun activities. Hostels are adjustable. Rooms are good but washrooms are not much. Some washrooms are good.
Faculty: Our faculty members are amazing. They just read PPTs. They are knowledgeable and skilled in their professions. Minor exams, mid-semester exams, and end-semester exams are conducted for 10, 30, and 40 marks respectively. NITW has been following the grading system since 2024.

It is a good college with a good campus environment, and it has a good NIRF ranking.
Placements: 80% of placements are provided every year. 6 LPA is the starting package, and the highest goes up to 10 LPA or more for M.Sc. students. Akash, Resonance, etc., big institutes hire students from campus, and other industries like pharma and paint companies are also an option. Overall, the placements are good.
Infrastructure: The rooms are good with fine cupboards. Security guards are present. A post office is also available inside the campus. A cafeteria and other shops like Amul, Cafe Coffee Day, etc., are present. The campus is green, with courts for both indoor and outdoor sports and games.
Faculty: The college has experienced faculty with excellent skills and knowledge. They are very cooperative and keen to teach students. They prepare students mentally to face upcoming challenges and further studies or jobs. A better syllabus is important for other competitive examinations.

I am satisfied but not completely.
Placements: More than 60% of students were placed. The highest salary package offered was 8 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered was 3.5 LPA. Some educational institutions and some labs offer placements. Placements are done for students who have only a high CGPA for our course. Very few students have got internships from our course.
Infrastructure: Hostels and infrastructure were the best, and 24x7 Wi-Fi connections were available. Labs were very well-equipped. Classrooms were very good as they are also digital. There were 2 sharing rooms in hostels, and the mess for girls was very good. The food was always yummy. Additionally, food street is available for snacks. There were 24x7 dispensary and ambulance facilities.
Faculty: Faculty members were good, but the grading was not good as they followed relative grading. Teachers are helpful but very biased for some students. They are very well qualified, and the teaching quality is better. All were research-oriented. Semester exams are very difficult and not very easy. There is a short time of syllabus, but it is a very lengthy syllabus.
Other: Yearly 2 main events were being conducted on the campus. I chose this course as I'm interested in this course. Our college should give time to study rather than conducting more exams.

College life at NITW is really good, and the facilities provided in the institute are really great.
Placements: There are two branches in EP. One is photonics, and the other is electronics. In photonics, the placements are good. Almost all the students got placed. The competition level is less compared to electronics. In electronics, the placements are provided, but the competition is very high.
Infrastructure: LAN cables are provided in the hostel with good internet speed. Labs and classrooms are good. The library is very good with 50,000 books and good Wi-Fi. The hostel is good for boys. There are two hostels with good facilities, but the food is not good.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, no doubt about that. They have good knowledge. This course almost makes us industry-ready. Semester exams are very tough, and you have to work hard for exams. Relevant marking system is followed here.

It has good infrastructure, facilities, quality teaching and good placements.
Placements: In our batch, about 80% of the students got placed in the academic year 2020-21. In the previous year, the record was 100%, but due to COVID, the graph of the number of students get placed fell down to some extent. The highest salary package offered is 7.6 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 3 LPA. However, the average salary package offered in our batch is 6 LPA. Top recruiting companies like Aakash Educational Services Limited, Planet Spark, Turito, K12 Techno Services Private Limited, Pharma ACE and Jaro Education visit our college to hire students. Most of the students got internships at CSIR labs, but due to the COVID pandemic, the internship programme was cancelled. However, about 12 students from our batch could get a chance to work in the online summer internship programme organised by various IITs like IIT Delhi. I, along with some of my batchmates, got an internship at embibe.com as a content developer, and some students got an internship in Doubtnut. Roles like an assistant lecturer in coaching institutes, research associate in pharma industries, and business development associate are offered in our course.
Infrastructure: Our college provides a very good infrastructure in our branch. Recently, a new building has been constructed in which we used to have our classes. The rooms are equipped with a digital board. You will find almost all kinds of books in the library. We had different labs for physical, inorganic and organic practicals. There are different labs for PhD and B.Tech students. The hostel is one of the largest hostels in India, which is known as Ultra Mega Hostel. We have a LAN connection in the hostel rooms and cupboards equipped in the hostel rooms. The food served in a mess is very good, and they charge a reasonable price for the food. It charges Rs. 82 a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have a dispensary in which we used to get basic treatments, and also they refer outside if we have serious health problems. Our college provides good sports and games facilities. Our college provides tennis courts, badminton courts, cricket grounds, etc.
Faculty: Professors in our college are helpful, highly qualified and knowledgeable. They are postdocs. Their teaching quality is awesome. Many students qualified for CSIR NET and GATE entrance exams due to their excellent teaching. The course curriculum is very much relevant to make the students industry-ready. We had courses like medicinal, chemistry, drug discovery, delivery systems, etc., which is very helpful for industrial sectors. Semester exams are somewhat difficult to score very good marks, but due to relative grading, most of the students got passed in the semester exams. The pass percentage is more than 95%.
Other: I have chosen this course because I am interested in organic chemistry. The best thing about this course in this institute is that it has a well-designed course curriculum, syllabus, and well-experienced professors. Our college organises basically 2 fests in an academic year, named Technozion and Spring spree. We used to gather in the auditorium for movies at the weekends. We used to celebrate Ganesh Puja, Saraswati puja and several other occasions. I got the university rank holder scholarship from UGC. Students also got a wide range of varieties of scholarships. There are 24 clubs for different extracurricular activities like dance club, sports club, art club, photography club, nature club, etc.
