Q:   Is it worth pursuing B.A. at Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh?

    A:
    {Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Based on the feedback from students and alumni, here's what we can conclude:

Placements: The college doesn't have a strong track record when it comes to placements for B.A. students. Only around 30-40% of students find jobs, and the salaries are relatively low, ranging from INR2-3 Lacs per annum.

Infrastructure: The college has good infrastructure, with well-ventilated classrooms, a large library, and decent hostel facilities.

Faculty and Curriculum: The faculty is experienced and knowledgeable, with a good curriculum that covers a range of topics. The exams are moderately challenging, and students who put in effort can expect to perform well.

Career Prospects: While the college may not have a strong reputation for placements, a B.A. degree can still lead to various career options, especially for those interested in government competitive exams (UGC, NET, UPSC, SSC, banking exams) or pursuing higher education (M.A.).

Overall Assessment: Pursuing a B.A. at PG Government College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh might be a good option for students interested in humanities and wanting to develop their skills in critical thinking, writing, and research. However, students should be aware of the limited job prospects and focus on developing transferable skills or considering further education.

Remember that individual experiences may vary, and it's essential to weigh these factors against your own interests, strengths, and career aspirations before making a decision.

Satisfied because of good faculty and facilities.
Placements: Above 50% of students are placed in Bachelor of Arts. The college does offer placement to them, but B.A. students mostly don't take them. Most placements are offered to BCA students. The packages offered to them are mostly average but also depend on the qualifications of the students.
Infrastructure: The college has average infrastructure, typically that of a government college. The classrooms are big, with wooden benches, and have big windows providing good ventilation. The college has different departments, each with its own labs. The library is very big, with AC facilities, and offers study material related to each and every course offered. The quality of hostels is average, and the quality of food offered by the mess is eatable. The hostel rooms are mostly shared between two girls. The college has a dispensary within, which offers medical care to the girls. In case of emergencies, the girls can visit PGI or Government Hospital, Sector 16. The college offers various sports activities as well as NCC and NSS.
Faculty: The teachers of the college are well-qualified and knowledgeable. Overall, the teaching quality is above average. The students who have started college in 2024 have a new curriculum under NEP. This curriculum is quite relevant. It makes students ready for their future occupations and helps them deal with their stress. The semester exams are not very tough. The pass percentage is 80%. Students need to be prepared beforehand and have all their concepts clear.
Other: I am currently studying Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. The Psychology department of PGGCG-11 is very good and talked about in Chandigarh. Every department of the college organizes different events and extracurricular activities throughout the year. The Psychology department of PGGCG-11 is very interactive and active with their events.

    Really good education quality .
Placements: Around 30% of students were placed in the college. The average package offered was around 15k, the highest must be 30k and the lowest might be 8-10k. Around 30% of students got internships. The roles that were offered were mostly about content writing and researchers.
Infrastructure: As a psychology student, we have two labs, one for UG and one for PG, and one was fully AC; the department also has the AC; the library is very big and one can find any book that is needed. The quality of food was okay in the canteen; it was not very hygienic. And there are good opportunities for sports in this college.
Faculty: Teachers in the college are very well qualified and experienced. And their teaching quality is good. Yes, the course curriculum is very relevant. And I will surely make the students industry-ready. Semester exams are moderate to difficult . And pass percentage is around 70% on average.
Other: The college is good for its academics. But there are only limited staff for each course. Events organized in the college are great.

Average college, not much exposure. Poor games faculty, but in terms of study, it’s good.
Placements: I've done graduation from this college and no company came for the placement. I don't know about post-graduation, but in the graduation course, no company was introduced to us, and the college management showed no interest in this field. Thus, in my 3 years, no company came to the college, neither for internships nor for any seminars.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the hostel is good, but the Wi-Fi problem is there. Jammers are in college, which results in poor network in both the college and hostel, as well as zero network in some places. The food of the mess is good. A common room with TV and a study room are in the hostel, where the hostel gate closes at 6 pm. A nurse also lives in the hostel for medical emergencies. The department has good infrastructure. Every requirement for classrooms is achieved.
Faculty: The faculty is highly knowledgeable, and the teaching methods are also efficient. The whole syllabus is covered with the point of view of exams. Thus, no practical knowledge is given. The students themselves have to prepare for the practical world. The semester exam has an 8/10 difficulty level, and the passing percentage is 45 percent.
Other: I chose this course in this particular college because it is the number one college for graduation in Chandigarh after Panjab University. The environment is fresh, but the exposure is less. Safety is ensured in and around the college and hostel. Everything is provided for girls in the college boundaries, including a salon, tailor, stationery shop, canteen, and daily necessity shop, etc.

Ok college life, but I enjoyed hostel life.
Placements: I personally have not sat for placement, as there were very few students interested, and teachers asked those who were to fill out forms and sit for interviews. None of my acquaintances have attended the interviews, but I don't think there were any big companies, and the packages were also not that high.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is old but has been renovated, and the library is good, though there are no Wi-Fi facilities, and mobile data doesn't work on campus sometimes. The hostel is good; you get gym facilities and an open area with more greenery. I enjoyed my hostel life.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful and will make sure you understand if you have any queries. But mostly, you have to do things by yourself as you are in college. Semester exams are not very difficult if you study regularly. The pass percentage in the semester is 33%, but most students get more than 50, so it is not that difficult.
Other: There is no big fest; sometimes, the department organizes smaller events.

Reviewing Post Graduate Government College for Girls.
Placements: Our college placements cell is dedicated to ensuring the students career success by offering not only excellent placements but also coaching for government exams. Workshops, mock tests, interviews, and skill building sessions are organised by the placements cell which helps the students secure jobs in companies.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of both the hostels and the college is pretty good. The college features well equipped classrooms, laboratories, a Library, gym, auditorium and a placements cell. The hostel provides a comfortable and secure living environment. It offers clean washrooms, gym, common room, Library, cyber room and a resting area.
Faculty: I took BA English Honours as my main subject. Anyone who scored more than 75 percent in their 1st year’s result is eligible to opt for this course. Faculty of English department is good. They all teach in a very fun way, all of them are humble and are always ready to help.
Other: Events are not organised frequently but it's fine.

Absolutely dissatisfied with placements; other than that, overall experience is good.
Placements: Placements are quite limited, and if they are there, they are not from reputable companies with low packages. A small number of students get internships. However, a few good students may get better opportunities if they do well in academics during their academic years.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are quite airy, but there is a lack of good lighting. Wi-Fi facility is not there. There are so many jammers, it is really difficult to use even your mobile data. Food in the canteen is decent, not that much good. There is a quite big sports ground for sports purposes.
Faculty: Faculty of the college is really nice; they support in academics as well as in extracurricular activities. The semester exams are not that difficult. One can score decent marks if he/she has attended classes properly. Overall pass percentage is decent.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to go further in this field. I have learned a lot and observed holistic development in my own thoughts. There are many useful events in the college, and there is scope for scholarships for the students.
