Sapatgram College: The Best Arts College in Lower Assam with Good Facilities.
Placements: First of all, I would like to say that if you are looking for a college that offers placement facilities, then Sapatgram College is not for you. It's a government college affiliated with Gauhati University that offers Bachelor's degree courses in the Arts stream only. You can choose your favorite major subject and get a Bachelor's degree in that subject. Although the college is not partnered with any company to offer placements, it encourages students to do internships through online sites like Internshala. Apart from this, the college itself offers Skill Development Courses for Tailoring, Make-up artist, Mushroom cultivator, electrician, etc. In my batch, there were a total of 40 students in that course. We all passed with an average of 70% marks, but no one got a placement through the college.
Infrastructure: There are adequate facilities and infrastructure available in the college and also in every department. Let me tell you more about the infrastructure and facilities available in the college.
The college has a well-maintained central library. Also, the departments have their own libraries. I'll rate 5 stars for its central library. You'll find mostly all famous writers' books for your courses, other books, magazines, articles, and so on.
The college has a sufficient number of computers and a good-quality Wi-Fi connection.
It has sports materials, a gym, and a playground, but they are not well-maintained.
Classrooms are well-maintained. There are enough desks, benches, and tables in the classrooms. The college also has a smart classroom that has a digital board, projector, sound system, smart desk-benches, etc. But the smart classroom is mainly used for seminars and other special classes.
As I didn't stay in the hostel, I know a little about the hostel and the facilities provided. As my classmates said, the food is not so good. Otherwise, their overall hostel experience has been good.
During college weeks, the college organizes a 7-day program, including sports, cultural programs, etc. Those moments are really mesmerizing, as I have experienced.
Faculty: Teachers are very cooperative, friendly, and helpful. All the teachers are well-qualified and knowledgeable, and most of the professors hold a Ph.D.
The teaching methods that the teachers use are very good. But most of the teachers use traditional teaching methods, and I have seen only a few teachers using digital boards to give lectures. However, their teaching style is amazing.
The course curriculum is quite related to the modern world. Since it is a Bachelor's degree course in the Arts stream, this course doesn’t immediately prepare you for industries to get a job. It offers a Bachelor's degree in subjects like English, Assamese, Bengali, Political Science, Economics, Logic and Philosophy, Education, and Computer. So, I don’t think this course is ideal for candidates who wish to get a placement in an industry after finishing the course.
The duration of the course is 3 years. The semester exam difficulty is moderate, and a sessional test is conducted by the department in every semester before the semester examination. The maximum is 100 marks for each paper, out of which 80 marks are for the theory exam and 20 marks for internal examination. Here is how the 20 marks for internal are given:
From Sessional Exam - 10 marks
From Assignment - 6 marks
From Attendance - 4 marks.
Other: I have chosen this course (B.A. in Education) because education has been my favorite subject since I was in eleventh grade. I didn't choose this course and college for placement opportunities. One thing that I want the faculty members to do is move to digital teaching methods and practical teaching methods. By the way, my overall experience in this college for this course has been really very good.
