Q:   What is the effectiveness of the placement cell for B.Com programs at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College?

    A:
    {Source: B.Com students & alumni}

Effectiveness of Placement Cell for B.Com Programs at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College

Unfortunately, the information gathered suggests that the placement cell at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College is ineffective for B.Com programs. According to the reviews and testimonials, none of the students got placed, and only low-grade companies like TCS and Kotak Bank visited the campus to offer third-class jobs.

    * Limited Job Opportunities: Companies visiting the campus were offering limited job opportunities, mostly in sales profiles, with salaries ranging from INR10,000 to INR20,000 per month.
    * No Focus on Placements: The college does not seem to prioritize placements or develop soft skills necessary for cracking interviews.
    * Few Placements: In 2017, only 10 students out of who-knows-how-many got placed, indicating a dismal record of placements.
    * Lack of Resources: The college does not appear to invest in resources to enhance employability, such as training programs or career counseling services.

Overall, the placement cell at Sri Guru Gobind Singh College seems to be struggling to secure job placements for its B.Com graduates, leaving many students uncertain about their future careers.

It's average, but the environment is good.
Placements: Our college doesn't provide good placements, but small companies come to our college. Not many students are provided with placements, only a few brilliant students are provided with the average placements. The highest package may go up to 12 LPA, and the lowest goes to 4 LPA. No special internships are provided, and no special roles were given in our course.
Infrastructure: Sports facilities are available in our college, which I think is good, and Wi-Fi is also available. Three canteens are set up, so there is no issue with food quality. The hostel is very near to the college, and the food provided in the mess is also good. The library is also well-maintained, and every book related to academics is available there.
Faculty: The teachers here are very helpful, and they guide us for all the doubts and also help with personal problems. The course curriculum is also prepared by these teachers, and it is actually very relevant to students. The semester exams are not very difficult if you study from the beginning of the semester and attend every class.
Other: I have taken commerce in my 12th class, so I want to pursue B.Com for my further studies. The best thing about this course is that it not only teaches you about account making but also about the nature of business, which I would like to do in my future. Fests also keep happening, and the surrounding is also very heartwarming.

Nice college and nice hostel room.
Placements: Likes: This course is excellent with a wide variety of opportunities for the better future of students. Companies like Wipro, Infosys, Airtel, Byjus, Amazon, etc., are offered to the students. Dislikes: Companies like Eclerx, Star Plus, and different banks come to the college for placements. Placement facilities for new and fresher students are currently low, as not many companies are trying to recruit them.
Infrastructure: Likes: Overall, the college has good infrastructure, medical facilities, library, and classrooms. The quality of food is good in the hostel mess as well as in the college canteen. Dislikes: The labs are above average in the college. However, classrooms are a question mark for the college, as they are not well maintained and the benches are very old.
Faculty: Likes: They not only teach according to the syllabus but also teach various things that will be beneficial for students in their careers. Teachers here are of good calibre, as varied teachers from diverse fields impart their knowledge to the students studying under them. Dislikes: They are qualified, but a lot of irregularities occur, as most of the time they are on strike. This makes students lose interest in coming to college.

Best college for graduation and enjoying your college life with a very big campus.
Placements: None of the B.Com students get placements due to limited opportunities, and the college doesn’t provide internships. However, the teachers are helpful, guiding us to gain skills and pursue internships, both online and offline. After graduation, many students opt for an MBA, which opens doors to top companies with attractive packages.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is excellent, and the campus is expansive with beautiful gardens, a large ground, and peaceful surroundings. There is Wi-Fi available on campus, and the library is huge with a wide variety of books. The hostel rooms are spacious, freshly painted, and equipped with necessary furniture. The meal quality is quite good compared to other hostels, and the registration process is simple, involving just one online form followed by some in-person formalities.
Faculty: Each teacher manages a class of 60 to 80 students, and they are very supportive and kind. This course is beneficial for students to acquire practical skills useful for the future. Midterm exams are worth 40 marks, and finals are 80 marks, but they are tough, and many students struggle to pass due to poor attendance.
Other: I was always interested in accounts and business, so my seniors recommended B.Com, which helped me adapt to the course easily. However, the syllabus is rushed, with too much focus on scoring marks rather than practical execution. Many events, fests, and a fun-filled fresher’s party are organized, and the scenic beauty of the campus adds to the overall experience.

Old date labs but good teaching with experienced staff
Placements: Very few companies are invited for recruitment. 10 students out of 100 got placement at the end. The highest package was around 7 Lacs. Classroom size is large. There are 3-4 companies available every year for recruitment. Because of these reasons, I rate it 2 out of 5.
Infrastructure: Hostel and commerce block is well-constructed but no air conditioning is available. Labs are outdated. There are two canteens, one is the college's personal canteen and the other is Nestled. Nestled provides good quality food and beverages, but the college canteen is cheaper.
Faculty: Teaching is valuable, and teachers are accountable. College is affiliated with Punjab University. NEP guidelines are followed. Guidelines from Punjab University are strictly followed. Exam fee is included in semester fees, so no extra amount is to be paid for it.
Other: Students rarely get scholarships, but fees are quite affordable. My B.Com course fee is 24,000 per semester. NCC is available free of cost.

    Know your college accurately.
Placements: If you score more than 80%, you might be considered for admission to Sri Guru Gobind Singh College; otherwise, you won't get admission for sure unless you have a quota or reservation, which can lower the percentage required for admission.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College is good but not top-notch. If you are assuming colleges like foreign ones, then you are wrong, but it is better than government colleges. Some classes are equipped with smart technology, but it was not used by teachers even once when I was in college.
Faculty: Exams are conducted under the supervision of professional professors. If you think of cheating, forget it. Minimal cheating, such as seeing answers from the front bench or from the sides, might be possible, but practicing any illegal method is not an option.
Other: If you want to enjoy college life, then go for it. But if you are very serious about your career, I don’t recommend this college. If it is your last option, then consider it; otherwise, try other colleges.
