Q:   Is pursuing B.Sc. in Hotel and Catering Management at SRM IHM expensive?

A:

The cost of pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Catering Management at SRM Institute of Hotel Management (SRM IHM) may be higher than that of certain other universities that provide comparable courses. The following are some of the elements that raise the expense of education at SRM IHM:

1. Fee Structure: The total cost of tuition for SRM IHM's three-year B.Sc. degree in Hotel and Catering Management is approximately INR 6–8 lakhs. In comparison to many other hotel management colleges in India, this cost is on the pricier side.

2. Hostel and Accommodation Fees: SRM IHM offers hostel facilities; nevertheless, additional costs for food, lodging, and other amenities can greatly increase the total cost, often reaching INR 1.5–2 Lacs year or higher.

3. Other Expenses: In addition to the above charges, students must also account for the cost of books, uniforms, study materials, transportation, and other extras that may add to their overall budget.

The location of SRM IHM is in Chennai, a metropolis with a comparatively higher cost of living than several other Indian towns. Students may incur higher costs as a result of this, particularly those who are studying abroad.

5. Private Institute: SRM IHM is a private institute; hence, it does not provide the discounted cost structure found in certain public or government-aided institutes that provide comparable programs.

Our college provides good placements and infrastructure.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good. Wi-Fi is enabled. Laboratory is well-equipped. There is a hospital on our campus. Hostels are also available. It also provides a separate building for the library.
Faculty: The teaching quality is good. Faculty members are helpful for jobs and internships. They are also very helpful in practical sessions. The course curriculum is relevant to make students ready for the industry. We faced tough semester exams during Covid.

I would recommend joining this college.
Placements: Many students got placed from our college in hotels like ITC, Grand Chola, etc.
Infrastructure: Our college provides a separate hostel for boys and girls with high security. The hostel facilities are good. The hostel is safe for girls. Hostels are near our college. The food served in the hostel is very hygienic and neat. Our college is Wi-Fi enabled.
Faculty: All teachers are friendly and well-educated. They always solve our doubts. They conduct practical classes. Our college conducts exams regularly.
Other: I opted for this course because I like food production. Our college conducts extracurricular activities, and students participate in them.

Good placements and an amazing college experience .
Placements: 90% of students were placed in our college. I do not have much of an idea about the packages. The top companies were Taj, Oberoi, ITC etc. 100% students got internship in companies like Mariott, Hyatt, ITC, Leela, Oberoi etc. There is a good scope for students to get placed in these fantastic companies.
Infrastructure: Labs, classroom, Library, kitchen are a part of the infrastructure. All sports and games are available in the hostel. Mess food is below average. Overall hostels have good canteen and medical facilities. The university has a huge hospital with free medical facilities for all students staying in hostels.
Faculty: Teachers are good and helpful. The course makes the students very well rehearsed with the industry due to the practicals as well as internships. The college sends the students regularly to different hotels across Chennai for their learning and experience during their college days. This way the students get paid too and do not miss on their attendance.
Other: I chose this course out of my love for the food and beverage sector. The best thing about my course is the four month internship offered. Other than studies, the fest and events organised by our university is all at the national level and encourages student participation from all backgrounds including hotel management. Overall, keeping in mind the studies and extra curricular activities, SRM is a good option.

Review of SRM Institute of Hotel Management.
Placements: Hotel management is the best course, and it has a bright future. The salary offered is Rs.1,500 per month, and it gradually increases. ITC, Taj and some resorts visit our campus for recruitment. Around 98% of students have gone for internship in companies like ITC, Taj, Intercontinental Resort and Lila palace.
Infrastructure: Our college has a playground, labs and the library. They serve lunch for free. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, and a connection is provided to students at free of cost. We also have smart classes and an air-conditioned classroom, etc. We have the second topmost library on our campus. The food served in the hostel is tasty and healthy.
Faculty: Teaching quality is very poor, but the faculty members are very good and knowledgeable. All are very experienced teachers. The course curriculum is relevant, and students will have a very bright future. They get ready at jobs. I got a better education from this course.
Other: I opted for this course because I was interested in it. I had a plan to study hotel management for the past few years.

It is a good college with the worst people.
Placements: Almost 98% of students in our course got placed. The highest salary package offered ranges between 5-6 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 1.7 LPA. Companies like Taj Hotel, Oberoi, ITC, IHG, Novotel, Starbucks, Domino's, KFC, Rebel food, McDonald's, etc., visit our campus for placements. Management trainee role is offered to the students. The highest salary package offered in our course is 5 LPA, and the average salary package offered is 2.5 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 1.7 LPA. Almost 99% of students got an internship in all reputed 5-star hotels.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is much better than other IHMS. The college does not provide Wi-Fi facility. The college provides labs just for namesake, and we will not get proper opportunities to learn and work there. Wi-Fi facility is available in the hostel. Food served is waste. Medical facilities are the best. Hotel management students do not get proper facilities of the sports compared to other departments of our college.
Faculty: Only a few teachers are well qualified and knowledgeable. Teaching quality is like they just finish their course in any situation whether students are there in class or not they don't matter. The course curriculum is relevant, but it makes the students industry-ready because it is the easiest course and they should add little more deep things like wines and food. One more thing is they are making us job-ready, and you will not get any idea about the business.
Other: I have chosen this course because I want to start a food business like cloud kitchen. The best thing about this course is you will get a chance to work in hotels and restaurants which will give you a proper idea about which department is best for you. The college should add more content and deep information about every particular subject. The college does not conduct proper hotel management fest, but it conducts much better fest compare to other colleges in our university. The college organises biggest and best event named as Sica.

The infrastructure of our college is excellent, but you can't learn anything here.
Placements: Placements completely depend on your knowledge. However, many organisations like ITC, Taj, and Oberai, etc., visit the campus for placements. Around 40%-50% of the students get placed here. However, all the companies come here only from Chennai, and this may disappoint the students from North India or the students who don't want to work in south India. However, you can try for placements here.
Infrastructure: The campus of SRM University is huge, and it offers almost all the courses. You can get 24 hours Wi-Fi facility here. SRM hospital is available if there is any emergency. There is a sports complex for students who are interested in sports. Even the library is excellent here.
Faculty: Only a few teachers are good here, but many of the faculty members are showing too much attitude. They are not taking any responsibility. They just come to class and give notes to us before leaving. They don't want to teach you seriously. Hence, this college is least valued as far as the studies are concerned.
