Q:   Is it worth pursuing B.Com at St Teresa's College?

    A:
    {Source: B.Com students & alumni}

Based on the student and alumni reviews, here are some key points to consider:

    Placement Prospects:
    * Around 50-60% of students get placed in top companies like EY, Deloitte, and Sutherland, with salaries ranging from 3-4 LPA.
    * Despite lower placements in recent years, companies like Wipro, Infosys, and Deloitte still visit the campus.

    Teaching Quality:
    * Teachers are generally friendly, well-qualified, and knowledgeable.
    * Innovative teaching methods are used, and seminar sessions are organized regularly.

    Infrastructure and Facilities:
    * The college has decent infrastructure, including a well-maintained library and canteen.
    * However, the hostel facilities and food could improve.

    Campus Life:
    * While there are limited spaces to relax and socialize, the college hosts various events and festivals throughout the year.

    Internship Opportunities:
    * Internship is compulsory during the second year, providing valuable industry exposure.
    * Although some students might find internships without stipends, this can be beneficial for future career prospects.

    Challenges:
    * Strict attendance policy (73%) and semester exams can be challenging.
    * Limited options for selecting electives and flexibility in the course structure.

In conclusion, while St Teresa's College may face some challenges, its strong teaching quality, decent infrastructure, and reasonable placement prospects make it a viable option for those interested in pursuing B.Com. However, students should be aware of the potential limitations and prepare accordingly. Ultimately, whether or not it's "worth" pursuing B.Com at St Teresa's College depends on individual goals, aspirations, and priorities.

Great teachers and lots of extra curricular activities.
Placements: In our college, around 60% of students got placed. A salary package of Rs.20000 per month is offered. Almost 100% of internships are provided for students. The top roles offered to students are Business Manager, Sales Promoter, Back Office Manager, etc. The top recruiters are Hog Merchandise.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is good. Facilities in the hostel are amazing. Classrooms are good and neat with a good Wi-Fi connection. Library is well stocked. The canteen is neat and has good food. All kinds of sports activities are available with fully stocked equipment.
Faculty: Teachers are great and friendly. Teaching quality is also good and exceptional. The curriculum makes students somewhat industry-ready. The pass percentage is 40%. Exams are fine and teachers are there to help you with any doubts or problems.
Other: I wanted to learn more about business and investment.

Our college has a good campus life.
Placements: Placements for our batch are not much. But still, companies like Wipro, Infosys, and Deloitte come for placements. College does have a placement cell for helping students. Most undergraduates opt for higher studies so most students in our batch didn't go for a job.
Infrastructure: Library is the best in the city with an enormous collection of books as well as e-books. It has a good infrastructure. There are cafes and canteens within the college. Hostel facilities are available. The college has good infrastructure and clean surroundings. Wi-Fi is available within the college. All kinds of sports are encouraged we can look for PT sir for more guidance.
Faculty: Faculty members are knowledgeable and qualified professors. They do their best always to complete the syllabus. Semester exams are comparatively good. Pass percentage in our batch and the overall department is above 90%. more than 50% of the class will have A+ overall grade.
Other: I opted for B.Com in our college, and it is the most demanding course. I would suggest more field studies than textbook mugging up. Department and college conduct several events almost the entire year. It is the best place to learn and grow as a good individual.

Not really satisfied with the college .
Placements: Around 50-60% of the students got placed into top companies like EY, Deloitte, Sutherland, and a few others offering 3-4 LPA. The job roles were Tax or Assurance Analyst or mostly in BPO as Vice Process Associate. Placements are carried out with an online test followed by an interview. Internship is compulsory during the 2nd year of the course. Most of them got into CA firms. Doing 1-3 internships is good as it can build a better resume.
Infrastructure: We have 3 blocks: the Arts Block inside the campus and both the Central and Science Blocks at Convent Junction. The main campus is accompanied by the main hostel. The campus is provided with Wi-Fi, and the library is upstairs. There is a media lab and a computer lab. The food in the canteen and café is good. The hostel provides food which is just okay. Vegetarian food is only provided during lunch. For dinner, non-vegetarian food is mostly prepared, which is average. The current fee is expensive, around 1 lakh per year. Prayer is a must for Catholics every day in the hostel. Charging time is till 10 PM, and outings are only on weekends. An ATM machine is provided near the office. The office staff has no uniformity or responsibility in distributing the certificates.
Faculty: Teachers are friendly and well-qualified, knowledgeable, unlike teachers in regular departments. But it's annoying that half of the teachers won't take classes on time. Regular department students are supposed to take classes. Attendance is strict, and 73% is needed. Semester exams are quite difficult, but it's fine as previous papers are provided. The pass percentage is 40, which breaks down into 20 from 2 internals, assignments, and attendance.
Other: The faculty is good and really helpful. They provide placement notices and assistance with the subjects. There are many events that happen in our college. Celebrities are always invited to the college for promotions. Auditions happen for every club. All these excite students to attend college. However, there is not much campus life as there is no place to sit, talk, or eat. It's always hot inside the campus.

    Review of St Teresa's College.
Placements: Placements in college were low. The highest salary offered was Rs. 18,000 per month. The lowest salary offered was Rs. 5,000 per month. Almost 70% of students got placed as not much-qualified jobs. Internships were mandatory in this college. It provides you with great industry exposure. Placement cell is available here which is controlled by the faculty members. It was not much useful.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is poor. The best thing about college is that it is lush green. The good thing is that there is E-library where you can avail many books at a time. The hostel is good but the food served is really bad, and I heard that it is not clean. They are not neatly maintained. The management of the college was not quick at any work. They don't do anything at the right time. They keep every work pending.
Faculty: Faculty members in the college are very nice. They are ready to help you anytime whenever you need. They motivate you at every step. Teaching methods used by them are verbal and powerpoint presentations. They support us for greater growth. They correct our mistakes, and they are like our parents.
Other: Events are mainly defined for this college. This college is mainly known for cultural activities. Students are very passionate and hardworking towards the events. Fests are organised in college and students have to collect funds from outside which a burden.

Helps to empower women and make them independent. You can enjoy extracurricular activities.
Placements: Placements were not sufficient. Around 10% of the students were placed. Companies that visited for placements were not that great either. The placement cell was not that active, and in my knowledge, it was constituted by teachers and not students. None of the students from my class had done an internship. There were no selection drives for internships.
Infrastructure: The infrastructural facilities are pretty good except for lack of area for the campus. Classrooms are big enough. There is a well-maintained library. The canteen was very small during my tenure. But, I saw a new canteen with a wide variety of food items, when I visited the college recently. I had stayed in the college hostel for a year. Food provided in the hostel was not good. The college has strict rules.
Faculty: The quality of teaching was excellent. There were qualified and knowledgeable teachers. A lot of innovative methods were used to teach. The commerce department had 4 permanent teachers, and the strength of a class was 70. The course curriculum was also sufficient. Informative seminars were organised and conducted by the staff.
Other: We had conducted an inter-college fest for our department, and the students of all the three years participated in it. The college promotes a lot of extra curricular activities. In fact, the college is known for winning youth festival trophies for many years. Teresian week is the annual event of our college and is enjoyed by all.

The college offers its students exposure to both academics and co-curricular activities.
Placements: Placements for the students of B.Com self-finance department were less when compared to the other arts and science colleges in Kochi. The main companies which visited the campus were Wipro, Aabasoft, and SpiceJet etc. A few other companies who came for placements were BPOs. The average salary package offered was 1.85 LPA to 2 LPA. All the students in the batch got internships from the college, and students were not offered any stipends. The placement cell of our college is not effective.
Infrastructure: The campus is well-equipped with infrastructural facilities such as computer lab, physics lab, chemistry lab, central library and all types of provisions for cultural activities. The food offered in the canteen is really good. However, the facilities and food offered in the hostel and mess are of poor quality.
Faculty: The teachers are very approachable and keen to spread their knowledge and wisdom with the students. The quality of teaching is exceptionally good. However, they do not use powerpoint presentations to teach us. There was adequate industry exposure, and we were taken for industrial visits a couple of times. The course curriculum provides a good learning experience.
Other: The college is a host for various arts, literary and cultural events throughout the year such as Panache, Emporium, annual bake sale, and Kaleidoscope, etc. Our college also organises a competition named Teresian where students of different batches compete with each other, and this event is organised for a week. The campus is located right in the heart of the city, which makes it more attractive.
