SEED Participating Institutes 2025 - The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) conducts the SEED 2025 entrance exam for admission to the B.Des program offered by the institute. The program currently has an intake capacity of 180 seats for Indian nationals. In addition, Symbiosis Institute of Design also has 27 supernumerary seats earmarked for international candidates.

Total seat intake = Seat Intake for Indians + Seat Intake for International Students 

   = 180 + 27

   = 207 seats

The B.Des course is available in four disciplines - Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication.

A:

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) has a combined intake of 207 seats for its B.Des program. This includes 180 seats for Indian, and 27 seats for international students. There is also category-wise reservation of seats - SC, ST, and Definitely abled.

Q:   What is the seat intake for B.Des program in Communication Design through SEED 2025?

A:

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) offers specializations in four disciplines -  Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication. The candidate can select their choice of specialisation when filling the application form. Note that the allotment of specialisation would be done as per the merit rank of the candidate in the SEED 2025 exam. Currently, the seat intake for the Communication Design for Indian students stands at 26 seats. In addition, there are 4 seats for international students. So, the comibned intake for Indian and international students come to 30 seats.

Q:   What is the admission process to the B.Des program at SID through SEED 2025?

A:

Candidates seeking admission to the B.Des programme at SID need to first appear in the SEED 2025 written exam. Shortlisted candidates have to appear in a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. To appear in the personal interaction, the candidate will have to book their slots. The candidate will also have to upload a PRPI Task and Portfolio. 

The final merit list for admission will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED), Portfolio Review, PRPI Task and Personal Interaction. The admission committee will also take into account the information provided by the candidate in the application form and the chosen specialization.

Admission to B.Des program at SID - Step-wise process

  1. The candidate needs to first appear in the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) 2025. The result of SEED 2025 would be used to shortlist candidates for a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) round. 
  2. Shortlisted candidates have to upload their portfolios and PRPI tasks.
  3. The Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI) was conducted in online mode.
  4. A merit list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidate in the SEED 2023 entrance test, uploaded tasks, and PRPI round. 
  5. Those included in the merit list are eligible for admission and need to pay the admission fee and get registered.

Q:   What is the eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Des programme at SID through SEED 2024?

A:

The eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Des programme is determined by the Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). The candidates can go through the program-specific eligibility criteria on the admission portal of SID - sid.edu.in. 

SEED 2024 eligibility criteria for the B.Des programme is explained below.

A candidate must have passed 10+2 (any stream) or an equivalent or 10+3 Diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with minimum 50% (SC/ST - 45%) aggregate marks.

Candidate who are appearing for the final examination of 10+2 grade or 10+3 Diploma programme may also apply. However, the results of the examination should have be declared by June of the admission year or prior.

Q:   Does SID offer any short term / distance courses?

A:

The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) doesn’t offer any short term / distance course. Currently, the institute offers only full time UG degree courses. Admission to the 4-year B.Des courses offered by the institute will be based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in the SEED 2024 written exam, PRPI and Portfolio Review. 

The application form for SEED 2024 will commence sometime in the month of September 2023. Candidates who meet the prescribed eligibility criteria can apply for admission.

Q:   What is the total seat intake for the B.Des program through SEED 2025?

A:

The B.Des programme has an intake capacity of 180 seats (Indian nationals only). In addition, there are 27 seats reserved for international students. The candidate may note that the seat intake is however subject to approval from SIU. There is also reservation of seats for SC, ST, and Differently Abled candidates.

The B.Des programme is available in four specialisations - Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, and Fashion Communication.

Q:   Can I get admission to a PG courses at SID through the SEED 2024 exam?

A:

SID presently offers only UG courses in design. So, candidates can’t appear in the SEED 2024 exam for admission to any PG courses. The SEED written exam is administered in the month of Janaury. Candidates who qualify in the written exam has to next appear in a PRPI round. The final merit list for SID will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in the SEED 2024 written exam, personal interaction, and PRPI and Portfolio review.

There are currently 180 seats available for the B.Des programme for Indian national. There are also 27 supernumerary seats earmarked for international students.

Q:   Will I be considered for admission to B.Des programme offered by SID if I do not meet SEED 2024 eligibility criteria?

A:

It is mandatory for candidates to meet the program-specific eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Des program. The eligibility criteria for SEED 2024 will be updated on the official website of the Symbiosis Institute of Design. The candidate needs to ensure their eligibility before filling out the SEED 2024 application form. 

Any candidate who fakes their eligibility criteria may be disqualified from the admission process. Note that information entered by the candidate will be verified at the time of counseling and seat allotment.

SID doesn't offer any short term / distance courses. The institute presently offers only full time Under- Graduate degree courses.

At the UG level, the institute offers a regular B.Des program, while a hybrid M.Des program is offered at the PG level.

Candidates who are allotted seats will have to pay the seat-acceptance fee within the given deadline. If the payment is not made, the allotment will be cancelled. Further, the vacant seat will be offered to the candidate next in the order of merit.

Yes, the shortlisted candidates will have to appear in a Studio Test. SID will conduct the Strudio Test and Personal Interaction (STPI) from May 9-11, 2025.

Candidates who are included in the STPI shortlist need to participate. Note that the shortlist will be released on May 6, 2025.

The SID admission portal mentions nothing about the validity of the SEED 2025 scorecard.

Nonetheless, it can be presumed that the SEED scorecard will be valid for the current admission session only. So, if you qualify in SEED 2025, you need to apply for admission in the current academic session only.

The official mock tests may generally have fewer questions than are actually asked in the entrance exam. The purpose of the mock questions is simply to give you an idea about the question type.

There is no harm in taking mocks hosted by coaching institutes. However, note that mocks tests by third parties are typically not free and you have to pay a specific fee.

So, make it a point to take the official mocks first, as they are free and also coveres the exam syllabus.

Mock tests are designed to be taken a few days before the exam. The purpose of these mocks is to help the candidate iron out last minute errors and get onself aligned to the exam structure.

The SEED 2025 exam will be administered in remote-proctored mode. 

This means, you are not required to visit any exam center to take the exam. Instead, you can appear in the exam from any place of your chooseing, provided you have a computer system and internet.

NIFT is attempted by some 50,000 candidates every year and is considered the toughest entrance exams in the country, along with NID and UCEED.

In comparision, SEED is less competitive.

So, you have better chance of admission through SEED.
