Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for B.Sc. students at Zakir Husain Delhi College?

    A:
    {Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

    Placement Cell

    * According to several students' reviews, the placement cell at Zakir Husain Delhi College is not very effective in securing jobs for B.Sc students.
    * One student mentioned that placements are not well-established in the college, especially for non-honors courses like B.Sc.
    * Another student noted that while there are many career counseling sessions and seminars organized by the college, placements are still limited.
    * Several students reported that the college does not have a good track record of placing students in companies, and instead, many students opt for higher education or entrepreneurship.
    * One student mentioned that even those who did get placements received relatively low salary packages, ranging from INR15,000 to INR30,000 per month.
    * However, a few students also reported receiving internships and job offers from reputed companies like Paytm and IBM, although the numbers were limited.

Overall, while the college claims to have a dedicated placement cell, it seems that the success rate of placements for B.Sc students is relatively low. More emphasis might be needed on establishing stronger connections with potential employers and providing more effective career guidance to students.

Very few companies visit our college for placements, But students should not depend only on-campus but also they should try applying off-campus.

A very genuine review after completing first semester from a satisfied student.
Placements: There are no placements. Honestly, there is also not much scope in this country for this course. The course is all about getting a seat in a popular DU college with low marks. Internship opportunities related to this course are also negligible, but the college internship cell is active. You can get some opportunities in different domains. Don't expect placements; prepare for something else. Worth taking admission or not - if you have low marks and want DU, go for it. If you want placements, choose something else.
Infrastructure: The college building is old. Classrooms are in bad condition. Labs are also in bad condition, but labs have all the equipment. The college ground is very small, like a small-size neighborhood park. There is a new building constructed since 2022 but it hasn't opened yet. Nobody knows the reason. Overall, college infra is 3/10. It is overcrowded with roof leakages. In exam seasons, your class sometimes gets canceled because there is no room available.
Faculty: Faculty are quite helpful and knowledgeable in their subjects. Sometimes they get more serious than they should be. They know students came here and don't want to pursue a future in Chemistry, but they sometimes pressurize more. But overall it is 7/10. The curriculum is good. DU has cut down the syllabus for each semester. There is not much load. Semester exams are quite, as DU follows the new education policy, you have to choose 4 more subjects like (SEC, VAC, GE, AEC). All exams are tougher compared to other universities.
Other: The reason for choosing this course is you get admission to a popular DU college with really low marks. This reason is true for 90% of students in this course. Improvements should be infrastructural. They must have a big ground. Pros should be more cooperative towards the students who are doing extra-curricular things like other online degrees, following some passion, business, or sports. The college has events at a decent level. You will definitely enjoy them, but even close to North Campus fests. The crowd is bad. If you have a love for Chemistry, then this will be one of the best decisions of your life. The chemistry department of this college is quite famous, but if you don't have an interest, choose something else.

The Yin and Yang pointers of Zakir Husain Delhi College.
Placements: Me and my batch students have not yet been placed as we have not completed our courses, but at an average, 20 to 30 percent of students are the only ones who get jobs at our college. Most of them are girls, so in a word, you can say that girls are more preferred than boys.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is just average as many things in the college require a thorough inspection and repair. The new building of the college has been ready for the past 3 years, but there is still no sign of establishment, which is going to be opened.
Faculty: The teachers are the one of the upsides of the college, one of the best teaching faculty compared to any other Delhi University college. The teaching quality is the best. The course and curriculum are industry-ready and updated every 5 to 10 years, keeping up with the changing trend. The semester exam is like a soft breeze that passes around the college for 1 month, meaning the semester exams are not that difficult.
Other: I am currently a 3rd-year student of Zakir Husain Delhi College, pursuing B.Sc. Life Sciences. My campus and infrastructure of the college are not up to the mark, but the teachers and college crowd are the only upsides of this college. One of the most affordable colleges in all of Delhi, the extracurriculars this college offers are extraordinary and industry-related.

If you don't get into North Campus college, you can consider Zakir Hussain Delhi College.
Placements: From my course, there was no placement. There were some placements from the arts department. The companies which visited my college were not so big. The college has a yearly placement drive of 2-3 days. As I was from the Science department, we did not have placement options.
Infrastructure: Hostel not available. Wi-Fi is available but not for students. Labs are good and lab staff are also very helpful. As the new building is not open yet, our classes were running in old buildings. The condition of the old buildings is not very good; some classes are too hot in the summer. The Zoology museum is very good; all the specimens were present. Library facilities are very good. Canteen food is average, you cannot eat it daily. No sports or games options.
Faculty: Some teachers were the best Zoology faculty of DU who taught us, but some were new teachers. For Zoology, I won't say they make you industry-ready, but they teach many things which will help in your Master's. For your subject file, you have to make it the old way by hand, and all the diagrams should be well drawn, which is quite tough.
Other: The college location is quite isolated. There is nothing for fun near the college except C.P. and Dariyaganj market. They did not take us for any college trips. Fests are okay, nothing great about them.

I am satisfied with my college because they have a good placement for many students.
Placements: The highest package of this course was about 5 LPA to 8 LPA. And the lowest package was about 3 LPA to 5 LPA. It’s about 60-70% of students who received a placement offered by the college. The roles that were offered by our course are research-based, like food inspector, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of my college is not too good, but it's fine. In some corners, there was no boundary, and the outside houses are visible from the college. The college provides some good facilities like Wi-Fi, clean classrooms, and a very silent library.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers are so helpful. They clear some problems easily and help students work on it in a good way. The teaching quality was very good. The semester exams were easy to moderate. Not more difficult, and not easy. So students can easily crack the paper with some time study.
Other: I chose this course because I have an interest in exploring and studying plants and animals and how they work for our environment. Yes, events occur annually every year and festivals.

A college which is specifically designed for academically focused students.
Placements: The placement scene is pretty inactive in this college. Most students cannot find any good placements here, mostly B.Com (Hons) students get placement opportunities and Mathematics Honours students. So placements are course-dependent. Most students of DU visit the Central Placement Cell (CPC) of Delhi University for placements.
Infrastructure: As this is the oldest DU college, it reflects well in its infrastructure. If you think of studying, then the library is very crowded and filled with rowdy students. No facilities, poor infrastructure. The college has no proper canteen, and the computer labs are a total mess with broken seats, old PCs, and too much congestion. The new college building construction was completed in 2017, but it still hasn't opened. We hope it will open in 2025. Also, sports and physical activities don't happen much; the main ground remains closed. Although there is a massive modern technology-equipped seminar room and auditorium, there is a separate building for science courses, which has proper laboratories.
Faculty: Yes, this is the strongest part of our college that everyone raises. Our faculty members are great, with multiple years of experience and great expertise in their disciplines. The curriculum is based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which has skill-building courses like programming, public speaking, financial literacy, and more. The semester exams are passable if a student studies properly, devoting some time every day.
Other: My course is B.Sc. Honours Mathematics. Nothing really influenced me to take this course; it was just my personal interest in mathematics. There are Value Addition Courses and Skill Enhancement Courses under NEP 2020 for Delhi University, although the classes for these courses get canceled frequently, or the syllabus gets rushed. The execution of these courses needs improvement. They also teach languages like Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu, which are compulsory to take, but they don't add any value to the employability of students. The annual college festival is Zeenat, which takes place in February. The college is situated in central Delhi, so it is well-connected to all parts of Delhi NCR. Popular tourist attractions nearby are Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, Rajghat, India Gate, etc. There are scholarships available for students who perform well in semester exams, like the Mirza Mehmood Beg Scholarship of Rs. 1400 for humanities, commerce, and B.Sc. students.

The college is good in terms of academics.
Placements: The college has its placement cell, which provides internship opportunities throughout the year. It also conducts a placement mela at the end of the year before examinations. The placement cell brings internship opportunities suitable for all courses, and sometimes specific subject internships are available. However, the stipends offered by those companies are sometimes too low. The placement cell organizes placement mela, but mostly sales companies come.
Infrastructure: The college doesn't have any hostel. After the opening of the new building, it will become the tallest building of DU, but before that, the college doesn't have that big infrastructure. The college has well-developed labs for all subjects, including electronics, zoology, botany, chemistry, and computer labs. Zakir Husain's library is quite good.
Faculty: The teachers are very qualified and help us perform practicals, which later assist students during practical examinations. In the first two semesters, there were four subjects: two core subjects, one AECC (English or EVS), and one GE (you can choose any one subject of your choice).
