IIT Bombay MDes Admission Process & Schedule

Design courses are offered at Industrial Design Centre (IDC) of IIT Bombay. Candidates can secure admission in both BDes as well as MDes courses at IDC, IIT Bombay. For BDes admissions at IIT Bombay candidates need to clear UCEED exam and for MDes admissions the first round to get shortlisted for admission is CEED exam.

Candidates who possess a valid CEED score need to further take part in the admission process as stated by IIT Bombay officials in order to secure admission in the MDes course of their choice.

IIT Bombay MDes Eligibility Criteria 2020

Aspirants are eligible to secure admission in MDes courses offered at IIT Bombay if they have secured atleast 55% aggregate marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/PwD category candidates) or equivalent marks in the qualifying exam.

Apart from this, it is mandatory for candidates to possess a valid CEED score in order to be eligible for admission in design courses offered at IDC, IIT Bombay.

Further, candidates can go through detailed eligibility criteria as mentioned for admission in different design courses offered at IIT Bombay.

Animation Design (AN)

Candidates meet IDC eligibility criteria for this course if they fulfill any of the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

1) Bachelor’s Degree of 10+2+4 years (minimum four year Bachelor’s course) in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design

Note: BPlan is considered equivalent to BArch and Four year BSc (Engg) course after HSC considered equivalent to BE/BTech

2) Professional Diploma in Design of 10+2+4 years duration (minimum four year diploma programme).

3) BFA (four year professional programme with entry after Class 10+2)

4) GD Art (four year programme after one year foundation. Minimum entry requirement Class 10th pass).

Communication Design (CD)

Candidates meet IDC eligibility criteria for this course if they fulfill any of the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

1) Bachelor’s Degree of 10+2+4 years (minimum four year Bachelor’s course) in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design

Note: BPlan is considered equivalent to BArch and Four year BSc (Engg) course after HSC considered equivalent to BE/BTech

2) Professional Diploma in Design of 10+2+4 years duration (minimum four year diploma programme).

3) BFA (four Year professional programme with entry after Class 10+2)

4) GD Art (four year programme after one year foundation. Minimum entry requirement Class 10th pass).

Industrial Design (ID)

Candidates meet IDC eligibility criteria for this course if they fulfill any of the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

1) Bachelor’s Degree of 10+2+4 years (minimum four year Bachelor’s course) in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design

Note: BPlan is considered equivalent to BArch and Four year BSc (Engg) course after HSC considered equivalent to BE/BTech

2) Professional Diploma in Design of 10+2+4 years duration (minimum four year diploma programme).

3) BFA (four Year professional programme with entry after Class 10+2)

Interaction Design (IN)

Candidates meet IDC eligibility criteria for this course if they fulfill any of the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

1) Bachelor’s Degree of 10+2+4 years (minimum four year Bachelor’s course) in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design

Note: BPlan is considered equivalent to BArch and Four year BSc (Engg) course after HSC considered equivalent to BE/BTech

2) Professional Diploma in Design of 10+2+4 years duration (minimum four year diploma programme).

3) BFA (four year professional programme with entry after 10+2)

4) Master’s Degree in Arts, Science (3+2 year programme with entry after 10+2).

5) Master’s Degree in Computer Application (three year or two year in case of lateral entry to second year after BCA programme with entry after 10+2+3 years for Graduation).

6) GD Art (four year programme after one year foundation. Minimum entry requirement 10th pass).

Mobility and Vehicle Design (MD)

Candidates meet IDC eligibility criteria for this course if they fulfill any of the below mentioned eligibility criteria:

1) Bachelor’s Degree of 10+2+4 years (minimum four year Bachelor’s course) in Design/ Engineering/ Architecture/ Interior Design

Note: BPlan is considered equivalent to BArch and Four year BSc (Engg) course after HSC considered equivalent to BE/BTech

2) Professional Diploma in Design of 10+2+4 years duration (minimum four year diploma programme).

3) BFA (four year professional programme with entry after Class 10+2)

Note:

  • Aspirants who possess GD Art diploma will need fulfill additional require of one year professional experience in design areas
  • Candidates can apply to any number of streams. The application form for admission must be submitted for each stream, along with the fee.

IIT Bombay Admission Process for MDes 2020

Aspirants need to follow the below mentioned steps to take part in IDC admission process 2020.

Step 1: Qualify CEED exam

Candidates are eligible to take part in the admission process for MDes admissions at IDC, IIT Bombay only if they qualify CEED 2020 by meeting the specified cutoff.

Step 2: Fill IDC application form

Candidates need to fill the application form online for admission in MDes courses offered at IDC, IIT Bombay. The application form for MDes admissions is released on the official website of IDC (https://portal.iitb.ac.in/mdesapp/).

Step 3: Give Written Test & Interview

Candidates to appear for a written test at IDC, Bombay. The written test will be of 100 marks. Candidates who clear this admission round then need to appear for a personal interview round.

Step 4: Declaration of Result

Category-wise merit list is released for IDC admissions. The final merit list will be prepared by allocating 70% weightage to CEED score and 15% each to the written test and interview round. The final score of candidates will be determined as per the below mentioned formula:

Final score = CEED score x (0.70) + Written Test marks x (0.15) + Interview marks x (0.15)

The placements are awesome. The average package offered is INR 19.5 LPA. Recruiting companies are good and famous enough. The placement record of the college is 95% and the highest package offered by the college was 36.9 LPA, while the lowest is INR 15 LPA.
