AICTE to translate SWAYAM, NPTEL online courses into regional languages
AICTE is planning to make online courses available on the Centre's e-learning platform, Swayam, in regional languages for all those students who are living in rural areas.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has said that it is planning to make online courses available on the Centre's e-learning platform, Swayam, in regional languages for the all those students who are living in rural areas.
At present, the technical courses on Swayam and the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), are broadcasted on Swayam Prabha in English.
The Council has invited applications from those who have already completed Swayam courses and obtained an “elite certificate”, as they are well-suited for the role. Teachers in engineering colleges who teach these courses and are proficient in an Indian language are also eligible.
The Council said that these courses are required to be converted into eight Indian languages on an urgent basis.
AICTE Chairman, Anil Sahasrabudhe, said: “The translated scripts if are made available in different Indian languages will help students to read while watching videos. This will be very useful for students particularly from rural areas and in respect of fundamental pre-requisite technical courses of first-year or courses in which failure rate is high.”
“Selected candidates will be given suitable honorarium and their contribution shall also be recognised in the form of suitable awards of certifications with recognition in course videos. There are other non-tangible benefits too,” he said.
Over 1,700 video courses are available on NPTEL, which are delivered in English with transcripts available for the same. These are the courses in various disciplines of engineering at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The method to be followed for translation of courses is available at the web portal.
