BCREC: A gateway to my future in IT

5 mins readUpdated on Oct 18, 2024 07:41 IST

Path To Choose My Course

After my matriculation examination, I opted for Science steam choosing Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Application and English as subject combinations, along with Bengali as my regional language (mother tongue). I started preparing for JEE – Main and WBJEE (state joint). While I could not get a good rank in JEE, but, I got enough rank in WBJEE (29k+) to get a sophisticated branch in any top-ranking private colleges in WB. After going through the rigorous counselling procedure, I finally got IT at my desirable institute. BCREC has so much fame all over Eastern India that students from this state and also from neighboring states come here to study. Even students from Kolkata (capital of West Bengal) come to BCREC in large numbers. I became so much glad after thinking that I have grabbed the best spot in my own home town!

Cracking My College Admission

Initially, I started the JEE preparation on my own. My Physics and Maths tutors helped me by providing previous year sample questions. I also joined a nearby institute 3 months prior to the exam. They used to teach each and every lesson in detail and take mock test on Sunday every week. Alongside, I myself practiced some mock tests before the final WBJEE exam. As I’ve told earlier, I got admission to this college via WBJEE counselling. Now, let me share my admission journey to BCREC. I got ECE (Electronics and Electrical Engineering) branch at BCREC in 1st round of counselling. As I was not satisfied with this choice, I decided to hold a seat in ECE and proceed to the next round, i.e. 2nd. Luckily, I got IT in this round and my reaction was just like – “Ohh! God, got the stairs to fulfil my dreams”. I then tried a chance for the special round, called Mop – Up round to confirm if I am able to get a CSE (Computer Science and Engineering) seat but failed to get so. Then I completed my admission criteria f 4-years course in IT and our classes started after 1 month.

My Perfect College & Course Combination

I have always dreamed of working as a Software Engineer in a tech company. So, to achieve my dream, I chose BTech in IT at BCREC. The institute has been placed among top 100 institutions across India in NIRF Ranking in recent years. Be it academic performance or placements, this institute has earned wide fame. Among all other departments of this institution, IT attracts some of the renowned IT tech-giants, like TCS, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, etc. and other start-up companies. The IT faculty is always ready to help students stuck with any kind of doubts. Most of the professors have experience of more than 15 years. It also provides good packages with above 90% placement records. In 2022, an IT student secured an INR 14 LPA placement which remained the highest in that placement season. So, keeping all these factors in my account, I can say BCREC & IT is a perfection is a perfect combination for me.

Q:   How much time is required to prepare for JEE Mains?

A:

The time required to prepare for JEE Mains depends on several factors, such as your current knowledge level, the amount of time you can dedicate to studying, and your desired level of excellence. However, here are some general guidelines:

  1. Ideally, you should start preparing for JEE Mains at least 6-8 months before the exam date. This will give you ample time to cover the entire syllabus, practice mock tests, and analyse your performance.
  2. If you have already started preparing, it's essential to make a time table and stick to it. Allocate at least 6-8 hours daily for studying, and ensure that you take regular breaks to avoid burnout.
  3. It's important to note that the amount of time required to prepare for JEE Mains can vary depending on your current knowledge level. If you have a strong foundation in the subjects, you may require less time, whereas if you need to build your fundamentals, you may need more time.
  4. Additionally, it's important to remember that studying smartly is more crucial than studying for a long time. Focus on understanding the concepts, practicing challenging problems, and analyzing your performance regularly.

In conclusion, the amount of time required to prepare for JEE Mains can vary depending on several factors. However, ideally, you should start preparing at least 6-8 months before the exam date, and make a study plan that suits your needs and schedule. Remember to study smartly, practice regularly, and analyze your performance to achieve your desired score.

Q:   How to crack JEE Mains in first attempt?

A:

Hi aspirant!

Clearing the JEE Main exam in first attempt is not a difficult task. If we see the year over year statistics, the ratio of students who clear JEE Main in first attempt is high in comparison to students who dropped a year after class 12. One thing that makes it easy to clear JEE Main with class 12 is that students are in regular touch of most JEE syllabus. To score good marks in JEE Main in the first attempt, it is advised that you study class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, clear all the concepts and solve mock test papers. Also, NCERT books which you study in class 11 and 12 are the best books for JEE Main preparation. Students must study NCERT properly and solve all the questions in the book and do not memorize the concepts as some students do rather understand the concepts.

Hope this cleared your doubt. Best wishes!

Q:   How many months are required to prepare for JEE Mains exam?

A:
The time period required to complete the JEE Main preparation depends mainly on the students. Every student has their own pace of study. Ideally, 6-month time is good enough to complete the JEE Main preparation. Students who have started preparing from class 11 or 12 can easily prepare for JEE Main. In 6 months considering the topics of JEE syllabus have already been studied in classes 11 and 12. JEE Main preparation is most effective with classes 11 and 12 as almost 90-95 percent of topics are similar in both exams. This way students can easily complete the entire JEE Main. Syllabus as well as the syllabus of classes 11 and 12. After the board exams, students get 2-3 months' time where they can focus entirely on JEE Main. Students who have started late for the JEE Main exam can make a 6-month plan where in the first three months they have to focus on revising the syllabus studied in classes 11 and 12. In the next two months focus on solving questions of JEE Main and analyzing the mistakes being made, if any. The last month should be focused on solving mock tests and JEE Main previous year question papers.

My Passion For The Course

The world of technologies and coding used to attract me a lot. In my 1st year, I started my coding journey with the basic C language and then learned DSA (Data Structures & Algorithms) and DAA (Design & Analysis of Algorithms) in C. I pushed my limits further to learn Python (NumPy). However, classes and objects of OOP (Object-Oriented Programming) fascinates me a lot. So, I started learning Java and still continuing it for placement purpose. Becoming a successful Software Engineer is my passion and I will do my best to achieve my goal.

My College Experience

My college days are packed with heavy schedule. Usually, classes start from 10 AM in the morning and continues till 5.30 PM. Duration of each class is 50 minutes, be it theory lectures or practical lab classes. A period of 50 minutes (1.20 – 2.10 PM) is allotted for taking lunch. Our college has a canteen space for heavy meals and also a food coat (called ADDA) where one can get any traditional dish along with beverages, snacks, ice-creams, etc. I attend most of the classes. I usually don’t prefer bunking classes. Now I am in the 5th semester. I am studying hard for upcoming end - semester exams and also giving attention to my preparation for placement drive. All students must have to do an internship after 6th, as it works as the platform for industrial training.

The Impact Of College On My Growth

BCREC has enriched me from both ends, academic and professionalism. As Engineering is all about solving different varieties of problems using the best optimal methods, it has helped me to think critically. This strong academic foundation is crucial for careers in technology, research, and innovation. Time management is another skill which I have learned during my Engineering days. With multiple assignments, projects, internals and semester exams, I have learned to manage the time effectively thus lowering the possibility of procrastination. Balancing academics with extracurricular activities helps to manage time, which is so much critical in today’s life.

Q:   What is the closing rank for NIT in JEE Main?

A:
Closing rank for NITs varies from institute to institute. In general, students must have a JEE Main rank within the top 30,000 to have a seat in any of the NITs across the country. It is not possible to provide the exact closing ranks for all NITs as it is subject to change. However, generally, the closing ranks for admission to NITs through JEE Main are in the range of a few thousand to several tens of thousands, depending on the institute and the specific branch.

Q:   Can I prepare for JEE Mains in 4 months?

A:

To get a good rank in JEE and make to the IIT, you need to have a strategic planning that suits the present format of selection. The present format demands an all-round performance as it considers your Board Examination, JEE Mains and Advanced. Here are certain points that would help you.

  • Understand the JEE Mains syllabus and start reading the NCERT books thoroughly. The NCERT books are written by some of the best brains of India and these books are quite precise and concise. Your preparation must start with NCERT books. Read these books thoroughly and solve all the back exercises. Also try the example problems for further practice of objective questions. Remember that reading and understanding the NCERT books are not the same thing.
  • Solve previous year JEE Main question papers to understand your preparation level. It will also help in understanding the difficulty level of the exam and chapterwise weightage of various topics.
  • Solve JEE Main mock tests regularly to enhance time management and problem solving skills

Q:   Is one month sufficient for JEE Main preparation?

A:
One month is not sufficient for JEE Main preparation if a student has not started preparing or have not studied earlier for the exam. As the syllabus of JEE Main is vast, studying all the topics and remembering them take a lot of effort. However, class 12 student can get a decent score in JEE Main if time after the bard exam is devoted exclusively for the JEE preparation. Since most topics of JEE Main and class 12 are similar, students need to revise all the topics and solve previous year JEE Main question papers. Start solving JEE Main mock test papers at last 3-4 days before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the exam.

Q:   Can I attempt WBJEE in Bengali?

A:

Yes. As per the official WBJEE exam pattern, the candidates will be able to attempt the entrance examination in Bengali. Two language options will be provided to the candidates for the examination. Candidates will be able to attempt WBJEE in either English or Bengali. Since the question booklet will be available in both languages, the candidates will be required to let the invigilators know about their preference in the centre. No other medium of language will be used by the authorities. There will be no difference in the questions.

Q:   How can I prepare for JEE Main 2025 without coaching?

A:
Taking help of coaching is not necessarily required for clearing the JEE Mains exam. Many students score good marks in JEE Main by self-studying, without help from coaching. To crack JEE Mains without coaching, students need to make a study plan considering the time they have before exam. Students can take help of online tutorials and videos from previous year toppers who have cleared the exam without coaching to understand their strategy. One thing that is required when students are not taking coaching is regular study. Make a daily time table of study and devote at least 5-6 hours for JEE Main preparation. Students who are in class 11 or 12 can give 3-4 hours specifically for JEE beside school studies. Students who have passed class 12 should also study at least 6 hours daily.

The most significant face of Engineering course is practical exposure. Our college organizes hackathons, internships (a must-do), industrial training in collaboration with tech-based companies, thus allowing us to implement theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. We work in teams for projects, which enhances our communication ability, leadership style and teamwork skills Last but not the least, BCREC offers a platform to meet like-minded peers, professors and industry experts, which can lead to job opportunities, mentorship guidance, and collaboration on projects.
