Coronavirus Impact: IIT Gandhinagar to start virtual seminar series for students

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar has announced that it will conduct the virtual seminar series for the students from April 24 until the end of summer vacation.

In order to ensure continuity of learning during the lockdown, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar is planning to start an online seminar series from April 24, 2020. These virtual seminars will be conducted by the faculty members of IIT Gandhinagar.

These seminars will cover different topics and have been designed in a way that it can be accessed by the general audience.

"The institute is planning to hold two seminars per week, every Monday and Friday. These seminars will be held between 4 to 5.15 pm. These seminars will be held until the end of the summer vacation," IIT Gandhinagar said in a statement. 

"The exciting line up of seminar topics includes fascinating aspects of black hole physics, nanotechnology, culture, and tradition of the Nagas, the relationship between humans and viruses, properties of glassy materials, languages, and scripts of India, fluid mechanics, etc.," the statement said. 

 

Professor Sudipta Sarkar, Coordinator of this seminar series and one of the faculty speakers said, "The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted all the academic activities around the world.  However, this crisis has given us the opportunity to test things that were never done before. For this, the institute is planning for various innovative educational programs using online platforms. Through this seminar series, the aim is to provide a useful intellectual resource to everybody at this time of crisis."

The total number of positive Coronavirus cases in the country remained well above 21000 while the death toll neared 700 on Friday.
