The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) is all set to begin its summer vacation from April 1. The technology institute commenced its summer vacation early this year due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.  Talking about the early summer break, IIT Bombay director, Subhasis Chaudhuri stated the institute has announced an early summer vacation (April 1 to May 31, 2020) for the students. The institute will reopen on June 1 and the classes for the new semester will begin from August 1 onwards.

The institute might have announced to begin the summer break, a special, fully online-based 'Summer Semester' will be run from April 1 to May 31 for the final year BTech and dual degree (DD) students who have very few backlogs.

An official from IIT Bombay revealed that the institute has allowed the final year DD and M.Tech students to complete their thesis works, submit and defend by June 30, according to the normal practice. The students are also allowed to do several of these activities over the Internet.

IIT Bombay suspended its classes and closed its campus on March 18 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. The decision to begin the summer vacations early is also taken due to the nationwide lockdown in order to control the COVID-19 spread.

Similarly, in line with AICTE's mandatory internship guidelines issued on March 27, IIT Bombay also made it clear that it will not allow outside summer interns this year. The institute is altogether making recovery plans to cover the loss of studies that is taking place during this lockdown. It also advised students not to return to the campus until informed officially by the institute.
