The State Common Entrance Test Cell has postponed the MHT CET 2020 exam, scheduled from April 13 to 23 amid the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country. The exam conducting authority has not announced any dates for the exam to be conducted later.
The exam conducting authority -- State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra State, has released a notification on the official website on Tuesday in this regard. The notification stated that the MHT CET 2020 has been rescheduled in students' interest.
The exam is conducted online every year by the cell for admission to various undergraduate programmes in engineering, pharmacy, agriculture, and allied courses offered by the colleges in the state.
The exam is taken by over four lakh students. A majority of these students are engineering aspirants. This is one of the major entrance exams conducted at the state level. Aspirants have been asked to check the state's CET cell website regularly for latest updates.
The cell had already postponed the MCA entrance test scheduled on March 28. The entrance exam for five-year LLB programme scheduled in the April first week may also be suspended soon.
In 2013, the exam was scrapped and the admission to undergraduate engineering programmes (BE/BTech) was done on the basis of JEE Main. However, from 2016 onwards, the exam was started again after which the government assigned 50% weightage to Class 12 marks and 50% to CET scores, instead. From 2018, MHT CET was mandatory for admissions in the state.
