DU Admissions 2020: Discussion on increasing seats in every course by 15% today
Delhi University Academic Council will be holding a meeting today to discuss increasing the number of seats in each course by 15 per cent for the EWS category.
The standing committee on admissions of Delhi University's (DU) Academic Council will be meeting today, i.e. June 10, 2020, to discuss increasing 15 percent seats in ever course to accommodate the quota for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) which was introduced last year.
In the last academic year, the DU had increased the number of seats by 10 percent to partially implement the quota and said that the remaining 15 percent enhancement will be completed in 2020-21.
The council is also expected to discuss holding admission process completely online for Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses for 2020-21, including the processes for admission to Sports, Extracurricular Activity (ECA), and Children or Widows of Armed Forces (CW) category seats. For those who seek admission against these categories, earlier had to be physically present during the trials.
Earlier, as per the media reports, the registration process for Delhi University Admissions 2020 to Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), MPhil, and PhD courses was tentatively scheduled between June 8 and June 30. Admissions for the first cut-off list for UG courses were scheduled between August 11 and August 14. This essentially meant that the registration portal would have opened on Monday. However, with the council meeting today, the admission dates are expected to be discussed.
The council will also be discussing the proposal that Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) 2020, be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). “The Nodal persons for any task related to DUET 2020 will be the respective Head of the Department,” according to the agenda papers.
The varsity committee may “consider the proposal that the eligibility criteria of the UG and PG Courses for the admission-2020 will remain the same as considered for admissions in 2019-20,”. It further proposes that there will be no change in the online registration fee, correction fees, admission cancellation fees, and “additional registration fee for ECA or Sports category”. Previously, a committee was constituted to make recommendations regarding admission against ECA and Sports quotas.
The council will also discuss different issues related to the admission of reserved category candidates. The council is also expected to consider the “proposal to minimize the visit of students for physical verification of the documents.”
