IIIT-Delhi introduces entrepreneurship minor for BTech students

The duration of the programme is two years consisting of 24 credits including 16 core credits, four credits for BTech thesis project (BTP) and four credits for an apprenticeship. The programme will take place in the summer 2020.

At Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Delhi, BTech students can now study business too. In its BTech curriculum, the institute has launched a minor in entrepreneurship. Along with the BTech degree, students who opt for the course will be offered an extra certificate. From BTech first semester onward, students can opt for the course. The duration of the programme is two years consisting of 24 credits including 16 core credits, four credits for BTech thesis project (BTP) and four credits for an apprenticeship. The programme will take place in summer 2020. For the first year, students from all semesters will be able to go for it.

According to a statement of the institute, the programme is developed to provide students with the entrepreneurship proficiency, business shrewdness and entrepreneurial vision required to become job creators. The programme will emphasise on creating an aptitude to propose, assess and plan an undertaking through team-based assignments and comprehend the challenges, vacuums, and opportunities and strategise fruitful solutions. The programme will also consist of the study of the basics of financial and legal planning, raising funds, business ethics, and sustainability for both the business and the environment.

According to Ranjan Bose, Director IIIT-Delhi, entrepreneurial thinking is a mindset that goes further than just commencing a business venture. It deals with evolving life-skills, such as, marking unique opportunities and selling one’s concepts to people in other spheres. The minor course will expand students’ mindset, assist them to alter innovative ideas into realisation, grow entrepreneurial capability and refine their business insight.
