IIT Delhi willing to hire JNU’s STEM professors

As per the data from IIT Delhi, there are about 630 faculty members for about 11, 000 students. The faculty-student ratio stands at 1:18 which is no way near to the international standard of 1:10 for an ideal organisation.

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is willing to employ faculty from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) who may be searching for options outside JNU on account of unending student protests. IIT-Delhi goes by the notion that many notable JNU faculty members in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects would be looking to join the institute. There has been a deadlock in JNU and no classes are taking place for over three months because of the student protest over a fee hike. Some teachers and students’ organisations are demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor.

As per the data from IIT Delhi, there are about 630 faculty members for about 11, 000 students. The faculty-student ratio stands at 1:18 which is no way near to the international standard of 1:10 for an ideal organisation. The majority of JNU’s faculty members come from the non-STEM branches, such as arts, social science, and humanities. The remaining faculty members, more than 100, consist of STEM stream. The recruitment process at IITs usually takes around three to six months and at times it expands to even one year.

Going by many earlier media reports, V Ramgopal Rao, IIT-Delhi director had written to faculty members in several departments of the IIT to persuade any eminent JNU faculty members looking for options to contemplate joining the institute.
