It is expected that the registration for JoSAA Counselling 2020 will tentatively begin from the third week of June. It is expected that like the previous year, there will be seven rounds of seat allotment process in the counselling to be conducted by JoSAA in 2020. JEE Advanced 2020 qualified candidates will be eligible for seat allocation in IITs and JEE Main 2020 qualified candidates will be eligible for seat allocation in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
JoSAA counselling will start with registration of candidates followed by choice filling and locking. The counselling will end with the seat allotment to candidates and reporting to the colleges. The authority has yet to announce the seat acceptance fees. In 2019, the acceptance fee for general candidates was Rs 35,000 and Rs 15,000 for reserved candidates. JoSAA 2020 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates aspiring for admission to IITs, NITs, and IIITs and have to fulfill all the below-mentioned eligibility conditions for JoSAA Counselling 2020:
- Qualify JEE Advanced 2020 for academic programmes (excluding the preparatory courses) at IITs
- Qualify JEE Advanced 2020 for preparatory courses at IITs and must have satisfactory performance in Class 12 or equivalent examination
For admission to BE or BTech programme at NITs, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs, candidates must fulfill the following eligibility to appear for the counselling:
- Qualify in paper-I of JEE Main 2020
- Passed Class 12 or equivalent exam with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any of the Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/Technical Vocational subject
Candidates who want admission to an Architecture Programme should satisfy the following eligibility conditions:
- Qualify in Paper-2 (for BArch) of JEE Main 2020 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs
- Qualify in paper-3 (for BPlanning) of JEE Main 2020 Paper-3 for with Mathematics as a compulsory subject for programs at NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and Other-GFTIs.
JoSAA 2020 Counselling: Registration
Candidates can check the step-wise guideline for JoSAA 2020 registration below. The choice filling for colleges and streams will also begin with online registration.
Step-1 Online Registration: Click on “JoSAA 2020 Candidate Registration and Choice Filling” at the JoSAA website. Candidates will be required to log in using their JEE Main/JEE Advanced application number and password. After logging in, check all the details shown are correct or not. Candidates will only be allowed to change their contact details. After checking their details, candidates must also change their password. After making all the changes, candidates have to submit them by clicking on the tab named as “Submit Changes”
Step-2 Choice Filling: After registration, candidates will be required to fill their choices of institutes and engineering streams from the already available list of colleges and courses. After selecting colleges of their choices, candidates have to lock their choices. Candidates should keep in mind that that the choice filling is free of cost that’s why they should fill enough choices to enhance your chances of getting a seat.
Step-3 Locking the Choices: After filling the choices, candidates have to lock the seats which can be done by clicking on “I agree to lock my choices”. In case of any modification, candidates can click on “I will lock my choices later”. Candidates must take a print out of their locked choices.
JoSAA Mock Allotment 2020
There will be two rounds of Mock seat allotment. JoSAA will conduct Mock Allotment of seats before the actual seat allocation. It will help a candidate to know his/her chances of getting a seat in a preferred institute based on their rank and preferences. Post knowing this, candidates can then modify their selected choices of colleges and engineering streams accordingly.
JoSAA Seat Allotment 2020
JoSAA 2020 Seat Allotment will likely to be held in seven rounds. Seats will be allotted to candidates based on their scores/results/marks in respective exams and choices filled during registration. Candidates can view the seat allotment result by logging into their account using their application number and password.
After allotment of seats, candidates have to download the provisional allotment letter and pay the seat acceptance fee of Rs. 35,000 (general) and 15,000 (SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD or ST-PwD) for confirmation. After paying the seat acceptance fee, candidates have to report to the reporting center (RC) for document verification.
In case a candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat, he/she will have the following options to proceed further.
Floating: This option is for those candidates who wish to accept the offered seat but also are looking for a seat in a better/higher preferred college or course.
Freezing: If a candidate exercises this option, it will indicate that the candidate has accepted the allotted seat and does not wish to participate in further rounds.
Sliding: If this option is used, it will mean that candidates have accepted the allotted seat, however, if admissions are open in a better course in the same institute then he/she will go for upgradation.
Candidates have to report to their allotted colleges to confirm their admission by paying the remaining academic fees.
