The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Institute of Design Haryana (NIDH), Kurukshetra. The objective of the MoU is to nurture academic partnerships and offer opportunities to students and faculty members to improve their domain knowledge. The MoU was signed by IIT Roorkee Director Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi and NIDH Director Prof. Vanita Ahuja. The MoU will remain in effect for a period of three years and can be renewed with mutual agreement. The institutes would be able to team up for R&D activities, share learning materials and experiences.

In curriculum development also, the institutes will assist each other for their corresponding courses and share teaching responsibilities in pertinent sectors. Moreover, workshops will be organised on topics of shared interest for students and faculty members. Apart from this, the organisations will also work together in research and consultancy programmes backed by national or international funding agencies. Institutes have also decided to hold joint workshops/ short-term courses/FDP/ MDP programmes for members from industry and academic institutes. They would share their knowledge and infrastructure to highlight the obstacles of society.

It becomes more important on account of the recent plan of IIT Roorkee to unveil two new masters programmes in Master of Design and Master of Innovation Management with effect from the next academic year. The MoU has the facility for student exchange and their training by means of projects, masters dissertation, internships, and doctoral thesis. The institutes have also decided to provide modular/elective courses to students in the area of shared interest of both the institutes. They will offer combined projects allowing students to learn design culture and comprehend the use of technology for product design.
