NIRF 2021 to be out soon, new category ‘Research Institutions’ introduced: Anil Nassa
The NIRF 2021 Rankings will be out in the month of September.
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) India Rankings 2021 is likely to be out soon. This year a new category of rankings, “Research Institutions” will also be introduced, where institutions will be ranked based on their research activities.
The NIRF 2021 Rankings will be out soon in the month of September. Dr Anil Kumar Nassa, member secretary, National Board of Accreditation (NBA) which conducts the rankings exercise speaking exclusively to Shiksha said: “We are in the final stage of the ranking process and it will be out soon.”
This year NIRF Rankings will also introduce a new Category "Research Institutions". The eligible institutions need to have at least 500 research publications indexed in Web of Science/Scopus for a period of 3 years or at least 1000 students enrolled in the PhD program.
Talking about the parameters for ranking institutions for their research activity, Nassa said that the parameters will be different from the ones used for rankings institutions under the existing 10 categories.
The NIRF 2021 Rankings announcement have been delayed due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic as institutions could not submit their data on time. In 2020, the Rankings were announced in July in which a total number of 3771 unique institutions offered themselves for ranking under the “Overall” category.
In the 2020 rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras emerged as the best higher education institution in the country followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru and IIT-Delhi.
The NIRF Ranking 2020 was announced in ten categories with the introduction of ranking of dental college for the first time. The 10 categories are Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture, and Law and Dental.
The NIRF ranks institutions under different categories broadly under five parameters, Teaching-Learning and Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practices (RPC), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR).
