There has been a demand from a section of students to increase the number of JEE Advanced attempts. The demand was made citing reasons that students could not attempt the exam as public transport was hit due to Covid-19 pandemic or they could not prepare well as everything was online and they did not have devices or proper internet connection.

A candidate can sit for JEE Advanced in two attempts in two consecutive years within two years of completion of Class 12 if he or she is within top 2,50,000 candidates in the JEE Main exam.

The students took to Twitter to express their concerns. One tweeted, “Pls support us regarding jee advanced 3rd attempt. And criteria number 4 This year has really been tough They cant expect us to prepare in such conditions that too for such a highly difficult exam #JEEAdvancedExtraAttempt,” while another tweeted, “We are the future of our Country!!!! Many B-town students had suffered a lot because of the pandemic. Please give 2020 batch JEE-Aspirants a 3rd JEE-Adv attempt.... #Relaxation_in_JEEAdvancedCriteriaNo4 JEEAdvancedExtraAttempt @iitbombay @ashwani_iitr @IITKgp @dpradhanbjp.”

They claimed that due to the pandemic, many students had to displace from their state of eligibility to their hometowns which led to the degradation of their education and many lost their mentors due to the pandemic. They also wrote JEE Main cutoff for General category was lowest in the past decade showcasing a decrease in competition and degradation of the quality of studies and preparation, even though the level of examination increased as per the trend. So, students at least deserve one more chance, especially in this pandemic era.

They added if providing third attempt is not an option, please let students appear at least twice in JEE Advanced with age limit criteria, by linking their attempts to Aadhaar card number. This way, a fair chance is give to each student. Scroll down to see students’ reactions.

All those candidates who had successfully registered for JEE Advanced in 2020 but could not appear for the exam due to COVID-19 were allowed to directly reappear in 2021. They were exempted to re-qualify by writing JEE Main 2021. While JEE Main is conducted for admission to engineering institutes across India, JEE Advanced is held for admission to 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country. IIT Kharagpur conducted JEE Advanced this year.
