Students’ Speak: All you need to know about Placement criteria for Top MNCs
By: Srinivas Goud
Placements at top MNCs is both a dream and cause of stress for many engineering aspirants in the fluctuating job market. Srinivas Goud shares the eligibility criteria to sit for Placement drives of top MNCs such as Infosys, L&T, TCS and Google.
Candidates are often concerned about college placements. It is quite obvious since employment and job creation are nowhere close to the number of engineering graduates coming out every year. Many MNCs aren't accepting applications, if the candidates fail to secure 60 per cent aggregate or more in final year or all four years of BE/ BTech. Therefore, students aim for 60 per cent or more with no backlogs in previous semesters.
The ensuing sections in the article cover placement eligibility criteria for BE/BTech freshers specified by top MNC recruiters such as TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Siemens, TechMahindra, Accenture, HCL, Dell, HP, Lenovo, NIIT Tech, Mindtree, etc.
But before you dig into the company profiles and their specific on- and off-campus placement eligibility criteria for freshers, one must understand that all MNCs do evaluate a few basic skills of the candidates:
1. Excellent communication skills.
2. Basic knowledge of the technical field.
3. Good aptitude skills.
Below, I have listed the minimum eligibility criteria specified by top MNCs that candidates must meet before sitting for placement drives. Some of these criteria would vary according to the business requirement of the company, job location and other factors.
Infosys Placement eligibility criteria 2020
- 60 per cent in 10th & 12th
- 70 per cent in Engineering
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Placement eligibility criteria 2020
- 60 per cent aggregate or more in 10th, 12th and Graduation
- Max of two backlogs/ re-attempts in your under graduation
- No drop in any semester/ year throughout the course.
- Upper age limit is 24 years
TCS Placement eligibility criteria
- 60 per cent in 10th, 12th and graduation
Based on my knowledge and research, most companies check your class 12th class marks since you're a fresher and do not hold the other qualifications apart from marks scored during graduation. While a majority of companies require a minimum 60 per cent aggregate, a few companies accept 50 per cent aggregate also in class 10th and 12th, depending on the job role and overall profile of the candidate.
On the contrary, if you apply for off-campus placements, you have to make your resume/ profile strong enough by completing few certifications and taking up internships at reputed organizations to complement your performance in class 12th.
Eligibility criteria for placement at Google
- B.Tech in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 65 per cent marks throughout the tutorial career. In other words, a minimum 65 per cent marks should be obtained in class 10th, 12th and B.Tech course respectively.
- No backlogs while applying for Google Jobs.
Google Placement test
All you would require to sit for Google’s eligibility test is the following:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an honest academic record
- Knowledge of internet, web-search, online advertising, numerical analysis, fraud detection and e-commerce.
- Proficiency in any of the essential programming languages such as C, C++ or Java
- Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills and ability to voice out clearly and efficiently.
