Every year, several thousand engineering students across the country sit for placements. Only the most deserving make the cut and get selected for their dream jobs. Lakshay Saini in the article shares time-tested tips to stand out from the competition and make a strong impression over the interviewers.

Campus placement is precisely what an engineering student waits for after four years of gruelling coursework and assessment. All the students want to participate in the campus placement to secure the job offer to get a head start in their career, after coming out of college. Some colleges have an excellent placement infrastructure and record while others have an average placement record. Here in this article, I’ll focus on the preparation tips for students to perform well in the placement season:

  1. Academic score: Yes, I agree that during the interview, your marks are not the decisive factor but for getting the chance in an interview you should first behave decent score in your academics. Some colleges do lay down the criteria that if you have a backlog in any subject then you cannot sit for a placement drive.
  2. Soft-skills: Your soft-skills such as communication, speaking, listening, leadership qualities, etc. should be excellent to succeed in campus placements. These skills are essential to clear Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.

How to prepare for Placement rounds?

  1. Since every student from your batch wants to secure successful placement, you should be more deserving to get the job. Your practice should take you closer to perfection. Work on your communication skills, presentation skills, etc. You should have the confidence and belief in you that you can get the placement.
  2. You should focus on the core knowledge and favourite subjects because in an interview you have to face some questions from your own selected subjects that you mention in the resume.
  3. Take the feedbacks seriously. Your seniors or teachers are the one with past experience of the placement process. So maintain your contacts with the teachers, ask them about the placement process, and get necessary knowledge from them. The right knowledge will allow you to stay a step ahead from others.
  4. Your future goals and the placement objectives should be clear in your mind. The interviewers may ask you about your future and the response will indicate your confidence level and clarity of thoughts.
  5. You must possess the basic knowledge for the job profile you are aiming for. If you have the required knowledge, it reflects your interest towards that particular job and the efforts you are ready to put in. In the personal interview, you might have to answer the questions related to the specific job profile for which you are applying.
