Students are often left devastated after a poor show in JEE Main. Akansha, an engineering student points out that poor performance in JEE Main is not the end of the road for engineering aspirants. She shares a couple of alternate approaches to move forward towards your engineering student.

JEE Main 2020 Phase I is over and you were not able to perform well. Is your engineering dream over now? Life is all about ups and downs and we should never be hopeless or negative about circumstances around us. There is always a way to succeed if you are willing to find the alternate paths for the same.

There are several options to go for if you could not crack the JEE Main exam in the first attempt or your score was not according to your expectation.

The first option involves a bit of risk. You can drop one year and prepare for the exam again so that you can crack the exam in your next attempt (JEE Main 2020 Phase II will take place in the month of April). However, if you are going for this option, think twice and ask yourself if you really want to do this. Never do anything because of pressure from family or society because in that case, you will again end up with a dismal performance as before or possibly even worse than that but more importantly you’ll waste one more precious year. Another thing to keep in mind is to stay focused and determined about your goal. After dropping a year there is always a pressure on you to do better and prove yourself, so make sure you take this pressure in a positive way and try to deliver a better performance.

For the preparation, you can join any institute (such as Akash, Allen, Resonance or any other local institute) in your area that provides good study material and expert guidance for JEE Main exam or you can prepare on your own. If you are confident about self-study then there are plenty of options for you. Prepare from different books and since internet access is easily available, you can do your preparation/ revision from online content. Several YouTube channels help students in their preparation. Now, few apps are also there that offer the subscription for various courses with really good content and course curriculum. Which option you choose, depends completely on what suits you more (personal comfort level).

The second option is to take admission in any reputed college other than IITs. Many universities provide high-quality engineering education and have good placement records with decent packages. There are 32 NITs, 18 IIITs and 18 GFTIs that accommodate about 23,000 students. Based on your JEE Main AIR rank, you can apply for admission to any of these institutes.

In case, you have appeared for any other engineering entrance then you have a third option to take admission in the colleges that accept scores of those exams. There are several well-known engineering entrance tests in the country such as BITSAT (BITS Pilani), VITEEE (VIT University), SRMJEE (SRM University), etc. Therefore, take some of these exams to have a backup option at the end.
