JNU Admissions 2020: 1.35 lakh apply for admission; 22% rise than last year
JNU this year observed 22 percent rise in the number of students applying for JNUEE as compared to the last year, the JNU VC said.
JNU Admissions 2020: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor Jagdesh Kumar has informed that this year a rise of 22 per cent has been observed from last year in the number of students applying for Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Entrance Examination (JNUEE). The National Testing Agency (NTA) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) conduct JNUEE in order to offer students admission to its various undergraduate/postgraduate/MPhil/PhD courses which are offered at the renowned varsity. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has earlier extended the option to edit and make corrections to the JNUEE application forms from July 15, 2020, to July 20, 2020.
Through a video message on twitter, the VC said that the applications have been received from all the states and UTs across the country. This is the second year that the varsity is doing an online application in collaboration with the NTA.
The VC claimed that students have wholeheartedly embraced the transition to the computer-based mode of the entrance exam and there is a rise in representation of women and different social categories. The claim is however in contrast to the survey conducted by JNU teachers that showed that more than 40 per cent students are not able to access online education. Due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country, the varsity had opted online mode to impart education to students to complete their courses and to avoid any academic loss. However, as per survey, over 97 per cent teachers received no “tech support” from JNU while conducting these classes.
Last year, a total of 1,16,558 candidates registered for admission to 3,383 seats including 1,043 for MPhil and PhD courses. The examinations were conducted from May 27 to 30. This year, the dates of exams are yet to be out and the application process has been extended several times to allow students to change their exam centre to ensure the least commute because of the pandemic.
