I am proud to be an IITM student: Simran Kumar
I completed class 12 from Mira Model School, in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology. As I had PCMB, I wanted to pursue a career in Medical field but as we know it’s very difficult to get admission in a good medical college due to limited seats and cut-throat competition, I didn’t want to waste one year in preparing for medical entrance tests because I was not sure of getting admission. So I decided to change my goal and do something else.
One of my friends studying at Indraprastha Institute of Technology and Management (IITM), Janakpuri, told me about its admission process. Then I went to the college to enquire further. After that I decided to pursue BCA and I took admission in IITM.
I remember my first day in college. I was late for the class but the teacher allowed me to attend the lecture as it was my first day. Since, I was a case of late admission, it took me almost a month to make friends. I was a month late in the session and all my classmates had already struck friendship with each other.
Honestly, the 1st week of my college was not good but then my mentor and other faculty members helped me a lot in covering the part of syllabus which I had missed. They also provided me with the notes and assignments so that I could cover up everything. Later on, I met with my seniors and some of whom were my seniors in school so I started feeling comfortable.
The best part was fresher’s party in which I participated and secured 3rd position. Another event, Fiesta 2k18, held at Talkatora stadium was a lot of fun too. I enjoyed a lot with my friends.
I also participated in Sports Day of my college. There was an Interhunt Programme for the students in which I participated and learnt so many things which improved my self-confidence.
I participated in a lot of indoor games too like chess and carrom. I also participated in a quiz competition which was really amazing and increased my General Awareness.
Now I have friends who are very supportive and seniors who are more like my elder siblings and our respected faculty members who are always there to help me. I topped the internal examination by scoring 83%.
One thing that I like the most about IITM is that here we are taught extra subjects French and communication skills, which help in personality development, thereby increasing chances of better placements in the future.
The presentation part of the lectures in which we speak on a topic and discuss about it for at least 5 minutes is also very helpful in improving our communication skills. I am also learning French language.
The campus infrastructures is very good and at the end I can say that I am proud to be an IITM student.
