Asian College of Journalism conducts an entrance exam to provide admission to students in journalism programmes offered by it. Candidates aspiring to build their career in the field of journalism can secure admission at Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) at the postgraduate level. The college offers four PG diploma programmes which include in Print, New Media, Television, and Radio streams.
ACJ entrance exam is a computer-based test that is conducted in two sessions. While the question paper for the first session includes questions to test an aspirant’s English Language Skills, the latter session evaluates the General Knowledge and Current Affairs knowledge of candidates.
The application form for ACJ entrance exam can be submitted both in the online and offline mode latest by April 17, 2017. The detailed application process for ACJ entrance exam is mentioned below.
STEP 1: Fill the Application Form
To apply for ACJ entrance test in the offline or online mode, candidates first need to fill the application form.
For ACJ entrance exam online application, candidates need to click the “Online” link present under the “Admissions” icon on the Home page of Asian College of Journalism. On clicking the link, the application form for ACJ entrance exam will appear on the screen.
For offline application process for ACJ entrance exam, candidates need to click the “Downloaded” link present under the “Admissions” icon on the Home page of ACJ. On clicking the link, the application form for ACJ entrance exam will be downloaded. Candidates need to take a print out of the form and start filling it.
Details to be filled in the online/ offline application form include:
• Personal details: Candidates need to mention their personal details such as name, date of birth, address for communication, telephone number, email ID, and fax. Candidates also need to mention their father and mother’s name, occupation, home address, office address, telephone number, email ID, fax, and annual family income.
• Educational qualification: Here, candidates need to mention their education details such as name of institution/ school, name of board (CBSE/ ICSE/ Matriculation/ Other), year of passing, subjects undertaken, degree awarded, and marks/grades obtained.
Candidates having any other education qualification (such as computers, languages, cultural, music education, etc.) also need to mention details such as name of institution, year of passing, subject, certificate received, and award received.
• Partial scholarship: Candidates need to specify if they want to apply for partial scholarship by ticking either Yes or No. Candidates who wish to apply for partial scholarship need to attach a proof of family income with the application form. Also, candidates who want to apply for Dalit/ Adivasi scholarship need to attach their community certificate with the form as a proof.
• Other details: This includes specifying candidates’ extracurricular interests, hobbies, sports, etc. Candidates can also mention if they have received any academic awards.
• Computer skills: Candidates need to rate their competency in different computer skills such as touch typing, shorthand, MS Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Browsing, and Chatting. Candidates can rate themselves by marking a tick against any one of the three criteria (Very Competent/ Moderately Competent/ Not At All Competent). Note that “these skills are not prerequisites for admission”, as mentioned on the official website.
• Work experience, if any: Candidates need to mention their work experience (including part-time) by mentioning the name of organisation, year of joining, title of job, and responsibilities undertaken.
• Course preference: Candidates need to mark their order of preference for the course they wish to apply for (Print/ Television/ New Media/ Radio) by indicating 1, 2, 3, and 4 numbers in the space provided on the form.
• Abilities needed to succeed in a particular stream: Under this column, candidates need to describe in 50 words the abilities and talents to have in order to succeed in the stream they are choosing.
• List of newspapers/ magazines read by candidates: Here, candidates need to list the names of the newspapers they read along with mentioning the frequency at which they read these publications.
• Television programmes watched: Here, candidates need to list the names of the TV programmes they watch along with mentioning the frequency.
• List idols in journalism field: Candidates need to choose three leading professionals in their chosen stream and explain in a line or two, why they are impressed by these journalism professionals.
• Describe New Media: Candidates need to describe in 50 words, what they understand by the term, New Media. Candidates also need to list some websites which have impressed them.
• Describe radio broadcasting: This column requires candidates to describe in 50 words how they see radio FM broadcasting developing in India.
• Published work: Under this column, candidates need to specify if any of their work has been broadcast or published. In case of broadcasted or published work, candidates also need to specify details of that work.
• Describe aspiration of being a journalist: Here, candidates need to describe in 100 words, why they want to be a journalist and why they think they will be good at this job.
• Exam centre preference: This column requires candidates to mention the name of the city where they would prefer giving the exam.
• Residential accommodation: Under this column, candidates need to indicate if they need a residential accommodation on the campus.
• Photograph: Candidates need to put their passport size photo on the application form.
STEP 2: Pay the Application Fee
After all details in the application form are filled, candidates need to pay the application fee of Rs 1,500. For this, candidates can either do an Online Transfer or send a Demand Draft (DD) in favour of "Media Development Foundation", payable at Chennai. Note that candidates must mention their full name and address on the back of DD.
Instructions for paying the application fee via Online Transfer are mentioned below:
• Click the “An online transfer” link present under the “Admissions” icon on the Home page of ACJ.
• On clicking the link, a new page will open. Click on the “PayUMoney” button present on the page.
• On clicking the button, a new page will open, asking for details as candidate’s name, address, email ID, and phone number. Fill all the details.
Note: Details filled should be same as in the application form.
• Click on the “Make Payment” button.
• A new page will open. Select the “Guest Checkout” option on the page.
• Enter the Payee’s email ID.
• Click on the “Continue” button.
• A new page will open. Select the payment option from Credit Card / Debit Card / Net banking.
• Click on the “Make Payment” button and proceed with the online transaction.
After completing this step, the online application process for ACJ entrance exam will be complete.
Note: SC/ST candidates will be exempted from the payment of application fee on submission of their community certificates.
However, candidates applying for the exam in the offline mode need to follow one more step.
STEP 3: Submit Offline Application Form
Candidates applying for ACJ entrance exam in the offline mode must send the DD, two passport size photographs, and the duly-filled application form at the below-mentioned address:
